A Communist Christmas!

Feel the <3, comrades.
Righto, I've got an idea for a bit of Christmas festivities 'round these parts. You're probably all familiar with the concept of a secret Santa. You draw a name out of a hat and you get that person some generic crappy gift that will sit on a desk for a few years and get thrown away when they get sacked. This is a variant of that, but with internets! I call it...

The Communist Christmas!

Instructions:

Pick a game off steam that you want, under $20 fer preference. Post its name and your email address in this thread. Come Christmas time I'll take together all the addresses, randomish them all up and assign everyone a game and a giftee, to be sent over steam with a time-lock for Christmas day.

I think it'd be a good way to get one of those games on steam that you'd never bothered getting but you think you'd enjoy, as well as spreading around some Christmas cheer and goodwill and all that lovely stuff.

Who's in? I certainly am. I'll post my game closer to the day.

Sounds good. I suggest setting a deadline some days in advance so there's time to sort everything out.

I like this. Though why confine it to steam games? We could do the whole address trading/internet purchasing thing. I mean I trust most of the members here to not lame out when it comes to mailing out stuff.

I'm laming out if it comes to the address thing. Steam is convenient enough for me, but I don't like all y'all enough to go the extra mile.

Yeah, I was really surprised when I noticed it. I heard that it's not that good, but for $20 I doubt I can complain.

I've decided on my game: Either UT3 or Psychonauts. I'll leave it to my gifter to decide.

So you HAVEN'T decided. Of course, that might also be an idea: You can put down several options (arbitrarily, I say restrict it to five to keep it manageable) and your benefactor <strike>benefacts you in the face with a stunstick</strike> picks one. That way it's a surprise!

I will play this fun game and here are my options:

    Tom Clancy's Spinter Cell
    Far Cry
    Bioshock
    Unreal Tournament 3

All are less than $20 USD from my end, so I don't know if the prices go up or anything if they're bought from other continents. Believe it or not, I've also yet to play any of them... I can't wait to make someone's Christmas a little happier, since I guess I'm incapable of doing it for the people that are actually close to me. Scythe is pretty brilliant.

Splinter Cell is fun but the next two are better. Far Cry was free for a little while and might still be free. And I feel like a chump for paying $45 for Bioshock but it was still totally worth it. Such a great game.

It's not a problem in this particular case, but I'm pouncing on it anyway because I didn't recognise OTRSPOD2 and it's the first case like this we've had:

It's your responsibility to make sure that whoever gets your wishlist can figure out what the hell is on it. It's okay if Google delivers quick and easy (OTRSPOD yielded appropriately informative results), but if your benefactor (here I go sounding like Breen again. Our Benefactors! Our Benefactors!) can't decipher your acronyms, it's your own fault. If you want to be sure, write the full name of the game.

I have to say that I am looking forward to picking out some seriously enjoyable 10$ games, any one have any suggestions for games that I probably don't own already outside the PA game that I should have tied out that are ten bucks on steam?

Well I'd look at multiwinia for 10 bucks if you don't have it/Darwinia. Starscape or Geometry Wars are both 10 bucks. Geometry Wars is a traditional frustrating 2D space shooter(think Raiden II arcade game) and Starscape is cross between and RTS and a 2D space shooter. There were a ton of other "recent classic" games for 10 bucks too. I saw Beyond Good & Evil and the GTA's on there for example. I just sorted all games by price and stopped looking at games when they got to 15 bucks.

    I suck at sorting

I have picked out the following in no particular order:

     audio surf
     nexus - the jupiter incident
    Uplink
    heros or might and magic

    I almost went commander keen.
    so close

The final countdown has begun! At the end of the 15th (GMT) I will send PMs and emails out to everyone, confirming their lists, and locking this thread. Those that respond before the Twentieth will be participating! At this point I will take everyone's lists, jumble them up and send them out to everyone.

I sent out the lists about three hours ago with the help of my handy-dandy D8. The dice gods stubbornly tried to convince me that Tekdude should buy himself a present, however I won in the end.

Unlocking the thread so everyone can discuss what they received and suchlike.
