Number 1. Totally deserved.

So this is more of a discussion...
What do you think of the other games they named in the Top 5?
What would your Top 5 be?

1. Natural Selection
2. The Specialists
3. Science & Industry
4. Sven Co-op
5. __________
Didn't like much else, sadly. But NS is still my favorite game of all time. Too bad you can't get a competent game of it anymore.

That's pretty nuts that your top 3 are my top 3. Here's my list:
1. NS
2. TS
3. S&I
4. Day of Defeat
5. Bumper Cars. No, The Pit. Actually no: Surprise! HL. Or maybe Holy Wars. Or Yoda HL. Or Rocket Crowbar 2. Or ArcHL. No, wait, it has to be Brainbread. Maybe Pirates Vikings Knights. Or... Hostile Intent. Or Move In! or Vampire Slayer or Counterstrike or... actually no that's all of them.
So yeah after those first 4, the rest are tied. Half-Life had AMAZING mods. God, thinking back to all the fun I had... wow. To think that I got Half-Life for free from my friend who couldn't figure out how to install Counterstrike and ended up buying a copy of CS and giving me his HL key. That's like the deal of the century, or the millenium. The cost of two brand new copies of HL isn't even close to the value I got from my 4 favorite mods, and considering all the other mods combined I probably got more fun out of my copy of Half-Life than most other games combined.
..and too bad Project Timeless didn't make it <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" /> , which I was mapping for in my hl1 days.
Hey I got half-life free too! From my "friend"! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
I actually went to buy it because it's a dollar this week and I wanted a legit version but apparently my illegit version is too legit for the shopping cart.
1. Natural Selection
2. Hostile Intent
3. The Specialists
4. Vampire Slayer
5. Ricochet
Hostile Intent was awesome. Totally awesome.
Not nearly enough people played Ricochet.
Vampire Slayer was good, and I'm only rating it higher than Ricochet because I think they accomplished a more varying game play than Ricochet so it had more replayability.

For NS? However bad you think those scenes were, I thought they really captured some of the fast-paced awesomeness of NS and made me really want to get back on and relive some of those experiences.
Damn TF2 for killing my beloved.
2. Science and Industry
3. Sven ... god this is hard to decide, I am worse than Tycho.
I think I will stop it there, those 2 stand out for sure, but there are so many others that I enjoyed for varying degrees and times. ArcHL, Hyperpuck, Box Wars, Buzzybots, Sven Coop, The specialists, Polyfighter (damn you r9!), Snark racing, bumper cars, they hunger, USS darkstar, poke 646, you get the idea <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />
Been a good 10 years. Now get the hell out, you've overstayed your welcome!
Move In! and HI had nothing to do with each other gameplay-wise, so I don't think it would have poached many HI players, but it was indeed a fantastic mod. Really pretty too.
I never heard of Move In, but just judging by its name I wouldn't have been interested in it. Hostile Intent was pretty awesome.
Judge it by the people who worked on it, then, including this forum's on CoolCookiesCooks. Or judge it by its awesome gameplay.
Hmm. CCC's models for NS <i>were</i> pretty awesome. The mod's dead, right? So no chance I'd be able to actually judge it on gameplay?
Maybe we should use this thread as like a game night inspiration thing... And then choose a night and a game for us all to hop onto.
I was confused by They Hunger. I'd never heard of it before. =[
Specialists, NS, and Sven are awesome. ESF is just OK, was kinda hard to get into for me, and the fighting system was pretty complex.
I wish something like Zombie Panic or Sci & Tech won instead. So much better.
EDIT: OK, not win, but make top 5

I'm really thinking about organizing some mod nights to play this great old mods. I have a huge Steam friends list; seems like I ought to use it. Off the top of my head, good candidates:
Natural Selection
The Specialists
Brainbread
Move In!
Hostile Intent
Bumper Cars
And maybe even some more obscure ones like Vampire Hunters or Buzzy Bots. Perhaps I'll go download all the mods, install them, gather up links to where they can be found, and prep some schedules...
You could even use the NSoT group to schedule the events. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
I would quite like this actually. I was sitting around the other night wondering where all the great mods for HL2 were. Really baffling.
The thing is I'm a lot less confident that I'll be able to track down a server to host any old HL2 mod that I want, whereas a Half-Life mod is perhaps easier to find a host for.
