Ehm, I know the scene is quite dead over the pond but I wonder if there is anyone (Jmms?) to do eg. a personal fragmovie about some US-side ownage. Although I must admit Exigent and Terror movies have a lot of content already. It would be nice to see participation from the states too.
Besides, the dollar currency is pretty cool for US guys. 8)

Euro to US Dollar conversion rate you mean? Yeah, that works to their advantage these days.
I totally agree with you about participation. It looks like we're going to get a decent amount of movies from Europe, both from experienced and inexperienced moviemakers. I really hope we get some movies from other parts of the world as well however, especially the USA or Oceania.
Way to go charlie, ensl.. thanks for setting this up. Lets all bring it to the table!!

It sounds like this competition aims to create an awesome video that people OUTSIDE OF NS can actually enjoy. Maybe it could even be used to pimp NS in the build-up to NS2.
Am I wrong on this assumption? I'm just saying this because, if that is part of the goal, then getting 50 submitted frag movies will be a bit of a disappointment.
You could make amazing NS movies, if you included voice_loopback 1 and voices in general, out of every day situations. Hell, you could get an amazing 4 min video out of a single epic siege, taken from a 'directed spectator' viewpoint, where it jumps between the interesting players' views as well as set-camera views, with some music tossed in. Or you could do the same kind of concept, but turning a single, full round into a movie-like video. As in, skipping video from certain downtimes to keep up the pace, but where the viewer would never know.
On that topic, is it HLTV demos that let you pause and move around in free-roam?
There are no restrictions on what type of movie can be submitted (a quick look at the rules will tell you this).

I don't know where you'd get such an assumption from. Certainly any unintentional advertisement value this might have for NS or NS2 is nice, but there is no such aim to the competition. While it's open to all types of movies, the bulk (if not all) of the submissions are expected to be fragmovies, which is incidentally also the type of movie most of us are interested in.

Yes. First person demos can also be given (albeit oftentimes bugged) HLTV functionality with the command dem_forcehltv 1.
agreed. Some people like to stay in the shadow for these contests, I can only hope that "rule" isn't mandatory.
I.e.:
- Making sure you don't submit anyone else's work
- Making sure you don't submit multiple entries
- Making sure they are able to contact all entrants if there are any problems, or to award them victory
- Giving everyone the same time limit
- Giving the judges advanced warning about how much time they will need to set aside to judge all entries, and even to decide how many judges will be needed
- Also don't forget they will probably want to host all videos, so they may need to know what their server's in for...
harmaahylje: and the rules about signing up, we want to be able to keep in touch with the movie makers
Which is fair enough. I'm sure they'll be reasonable enough to allow late entries, but anyone who wants to participate should send an email to Dracka.
Check our <a href="http://ensl.zanith.nl/mc" target="_blank">webpage</a> for news.
The NS Movie Competition's deadline was yesterday and the movies that made it to the deadline will be released 16.4 18.00 (CEST).
There is some quality in the movies I have seen so far, you should definitely check them out!
There is a counter for the release on our Movie Contest website aswell!

Fana's is unbelievable - too short though.
( Just don't let him win though, he has a big enough ego already )
