Forcefields

<div class="IPBDescription">New frontiersmen defense</div>I think it would be good to have forcefields and/or other ways to block the kharaa from some parts of the maps (like resource towers). Shortly the idea is to build 2 points and link them together through the command console (would take about 10-30 seconds to activate). The forcefield would block the kharaa, but would let frontiersmen go through. Most likely it would be very vulnerable to attacks, but could prove to be a great base defense. This could cause spamming forcefields for an ultimate defense, but a limit for defensive structures in a single room/sector/corridor would prevent spamming forcefields.
Tell me what you think about it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tsa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::tsa::" border="0" alt="tsa.gif" />

    Charlie mentioned that Marines would be able to weld open/close more doorways, so if that's still in the game this may be a bit redundant. It was also mentioned that gorges would be setting up more temporary structures like traps and barriers and leave the real building to the comm, so maybe the gorge wall will work similar to this.

    When you started talking about Force Shields I was thinking something on the lines of this sketch I just made:

    <img src="http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/6849/lolxst.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

    Basically, it's a shield that the players can make higher or lower at will, and it fries <i>everything organic</i> that passes between the upper and lower part, however it can be overloaded: if the middle part "fries" too much it shuts down for a while.

    So you mean if the kharaa would just flood through the shield in huge numbers it would overload and only the first aliens would be fried?

    Yeah, only the first 8 aliens about. The forcefield also "fries" the organic bullets of the khaara, and thus they can take it out from far away.
    However, it does not block humans' bullets.

    That wouldn't scale at all to smaller games, and a marine should have to be on the 'unsafe' side in order shoot out.

    Well the scale of the game would indeed affect the effectiveness of the forcefields, but this could be tinkered with a factor (like 1/3 of the alien population or that amount of organic stuff passing through).

    This idea would work if you could also make it wider or thinner, this way it would not cause problems in thin or wide corridors, nor high or low corridors.
    So basically i like your opinion of frying. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
