<div class="IPBDescription">( in stores )</div>it is more of an question then suggestion: will there be a Retail version in a box to buy at stores, or is everything via Downloads and internet?
i am a bit concerned, becouse i dont have paypal or something, and everytime i wanted to buy and download something from the internet failed.
(especialy steam. i cant buy anything on steam.. )
the only ecception is amazone, but i doubt that i can buy it from there, especially considered that they sell boxed games.
actually, i dont have a clue if it works or not, i didnt hit the buttom yet. im gonna try the demo( or get it when i saw a trillion of Gameplay videos.), even through im a fan. its a quirk of mine.
(sigh.. somehow i already know the answer.. how could a small indie developer burn tousends of discs? maybe it works with NS2.. i hope so. )

But since Introversion got on Steam and different... less qualified People too, I think Valve will be grabbing this.
And Valve sells Red Orchestra as Box, too. IIRC.
Or rather, one of their Partners.
What do you mean by "doesn't work", though? If you have a card and it doesn't work, then phone your card company or the company that runs the site in question and they'll help you out. They have legions of people there to help you.
If you don't have a card, get one. Most of these services take debit as well as credit; Paypal does. You can pay through Paypal without having to get an account.
You can also link a bank account to a Paypal account and pay through a direct debit. It takes a little setting up, but it's pretty easy.
Finally, if all else fails, give the money to a friend and have them buy it for you and then email you the code you'll be sent. When I was younger I used to do that all the time for friends.
In short, saying "it doesn't work" and giving up isn't going to solve this problem.
Last time I checked, Steam allows you to use PayPal but your PayPal account requires a valid credit card as backup. Credit Cards are evil and I don't think people should be required to get them to carry out transactions like these. I'm sure UWE could set up keys on the Steam servers and purchasing could either go directly through Steam or through an external site setup by UWE where the keys would be e-mailed to the purchaser and they can add the key to their Steam account.
As for a Retail version, I think smaller companies right now will do far better if they stick with online sales. Retail adds a lot of overhead and when pitted against games that may be more popular for whatever reason, they may not get the income they could be getting if they devote their time to online sales. That said, a retail version would be awesome. Like Music CDs, I prefer to buy the game with a box, disk(s) and manual. I've never fully trusted situations like Steam where you download the game to your computer from the Internet and install it into software that you do not otherwise control. These games all require Steam to play and if in a few years Steam is gone, replaced, or old games on the Steam servers are removed to make room for newer games, where does that leave the customer who has paid for the game? I'm sure Steam would put up a direct download of sorts for it, but most of these games have Steam fully integrated and wouldn't be able to function without it. What if I happened to be out of the Steam/gaming loop and missed out on the direct download?
All and all, I prefer retail. Direct Download is a lot faster and cheaper (for the company but, oddly... not for the consumer) and it would benefit UWE more to stick with online sales only, so I don't think retail will happen. Then again... Vendetta Online shipped retail but AFAIK, the client is now only available in direct download fashion... and they have a developer team of 4-5.
Happened with that other Downloadservice that hadn't any Chance against Steam and it will happen with Steam <i>IF</i> it will go down.
And if there isn't enough Space on the Servers, they'll add more Diskspace, simple as that.
Also, you don't need a Creditcard. I'm sending Money from my Giro to PP and never ever have touched my CC for online Transactions.
You'll notice that I said DEBIT card. I said this <i>specifically</i> to address this complaint, because I saw it coming.

Actually that's a bit of a Catch-22 - game downloaded through Steam, Steam provides updates, Steam goes down, no more updates. The idea is that studios don't have the infrastructure to release patches because Steam does it for them; the studio's server would get wanged as a result.
Valve have always said that if Steam were ever to be taken offline, they'd disable authentication, though.
rapidshare, depositfiles, torrent, mule?
Fileplanet, 3D Hell, k-files.de, etc?
