game alphas are usually quite small as i doubt it will be more than 1 map with only part of the games features intact.
i would be suprised if the entire game was 3 - 5 gb, i'm putting my money on a size of less than 1Gb, maybe even less than 500mb, but beware that it will most likely require frequent updating as the dev's add features and fix issues.
around 2 go whitout all the tools
final game will have near 5-6 go maybe more
that pure speculation we cant know how big the files will be since it all own unknowworld stuff

Now I don't know for sure but this is what I think.
What I expect that is that the alpha will be around 1Gb in size, this is because it is more likely, does this game engine we made run on so many different computers out there that we can not even begin to test. ( think about what Microsoft has to do for hardware vs Apple, Microsoft does not restrict hardware so they lot more combinations, and more things can go wrong, apple keeps there machines limited to a small enough number they can test every possible configuration. ). Most likely most of the data will be textures and sounds. The in game would most likely be limited to skulk races, and the like. A map with stuff to play with, maybe enough to play a round, maybe not. The biggest issue in alpha is making sure the engine will run the game on many different pcs with different AV, and different versions of windows, and so on. There will be gameplay as in Look at what this can do, and what not. Not balanced ( in theory ). If we are luckly there will be gameplay. But I don't expect much.
Now the Beta will likely be around 3 GB, with ideally, an alpha to beta upgrade patch. No need to download all those textures and sounds all over after all, but add what was left out from the alpha. Now the Beta will likely be almost complete as in You have all the units, and the weapons and what not. Here what we think they should be balanced at. Now try to prove us wrong, and that x is over powered, or y is underpowered. This in theory is more geared to fine tuning things, and balancing the game. Here you should not see any real game play changes unless something is found to be massively overpowered or underpowered. You should be able to get an idea how the final game will be. They will make small changes let say give Skulks a little less health, or more, not something like, let give the skulk a never before thought of lazer on it back that autoshoots webs at the marines. Small changes are best in beta for balancing.
I based my guess on what most fps games I have seen are based in size.
Its not a pre-alpha, its a alpha version of the game, if you pay attention to the trailer, the blog and the developer videos, you see they have most things working (not final).
So i am very sure its NOT a tech demo...or something.
First answer is be right but i guess they compress it, so its maybe about 1,2 or 3 GB.
