Pre-ordering?; sorry what?

I'm just wondering if you actually have to pay to play NS2. I was really hoping it would be free.

Sorry bud, but nothing good in life comes free. Surely you did not think that the devs are going to spend their valuable time working on something for free. Though they are quite nice and such... It is just not viable to ask them to do that when they could be using their own time to further their own lives, just to sit there [hours on end?] programming a game for you. This is not a easy task and I feel that Unknownworlds has done a great job and diserves it, even 20$ for their standard is fine.

You know you dont have to buy the 40$ one if you dont feel they diserve it. Though alot of people do :/ With that said, I do recommend you pre-order the 40$ and if you dont like it you can just ask for a refund later like I did [i got a refund for my 20$ purchase and got the special edition 40$ <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />].

Maybe he thinks he has to pay a monthly fee...

You pay around 20$, one time thing, no big deal.
  • ItalianmagicItalianmagic Join Date: 2008-12-13 Member: 65755Members
Yeah, no monthly fee or subscription. Just the one time fee for the game.
If you can't fork up the minimal $20 for it. NS1 is always around.

Natural Selection 2 is free! Just pay $20 for the original Natural Selection to cover development costs.

Haha, I like that. Just wrote up a lengthy post in another thread pretty much saying the same thing.
    Your version was better and more to the point <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

Aww, I just did the exact same thing. I have a feeling it was in the same thread too, but I swear I didn't read your post first <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

If you've played ns1 and followed the devlopment of ns2 you really shouldnt begrudge $20 / $40. Im more than happy to pay that for, what will hopefully be, two excellent games. Can't wait!

    1.where have you been for the last 4 years? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
    2. its $20, bucks which is what - 2-3 hrs of work at a fast food joint? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

Obviously high quality work comes at price - and there is a huge quality difference between ns1 and ns2.

i'd be suprised if you payed such a low price to play some horrible games

Life is free, that's new... you still have to pay to eat, to have a house, water, electricity... it's not that much free
In one way, life is free, but if you want to live your life you have to pay

But whatever, NS2 is some good stuff, and 20/40$ is some really good low price

the price of NS2 compared to some bloated EA release that goes for $100/$110, well lets just say I know where your going to get your value.

I find it mind numbing that you actually thought a game that has been in development for over 2 years is going to be free. What were you thinking... Not to mention your paying 1/4 of a price compared to a full retail game.

I paid for it twice ;-) One to give away and one for myself I paid for NS1 & NS2 all in 1 week.

Not really, Life is not free.
The first struggling begins when you are being burn, you struggle to survive.
And this struggling to survive cotinues until you die.

Not to burst your bubble but the original Natural Selection, which is perhaps a good point of comparison, was in development for MORE than 2 years.

it's not a good point of comparison, because ns1 was just a mod...

Good luck getting a better game than this for 20$! Its practically give-away price!
Considering all the hours of coding that surely must've gone into this I seriously doubt they are over-charging :o

Makes no difference, the time spent is what matters. NS1 was "just a mod" but it was also more fleshed out and more enjoyable than a whole variety of third rate family party games for the wii or poor genre jumpers that never score more than 40% at any game review. We got incredibly lucky with a game the quality of NS coming out and being able to enjoy it for free, to ###### about it for free, and to get it changed and adapted to our desires for free. The fact NS2 "special" edition is out now and is still cheaper than retail (for me anyway) is astounding.

20$ is only slighty more than 1 norwegian minimum wage hour. Or you could go jobless for a year and get the minimum 11.000$ support from the gov.

Ns1 is and was worth $20. And that's saying something. Granted, we're talking 3.0-ish when they fixed all the buginess.

But yes. Ns2 will cost you actual dollars. Take it or leave it. Frankly, it's probably a good deal especially in comparison to some of the junk you get nowadays, but that's all on promised goods so who knows. It's the same kind of risk you take when pre-ordering any game.

I honestly could not believe that they were selling the standard edition for so cheap. IMO they could easily get 29.00-39.00 for this game.
