Classic Mode

Have a Classic AND Power Grid mode
(I Searched and found something on a recreated NS1 in the NS2 engine, but nothing on this subject, so here's my idea)

WHY SETTLE FOR ONE?! IT'S BETTER TO HAVE THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS!!!!

I noticed that many took a negative tone to the power grid idea while many took a positive tone. The fact that makes such a mode terrible is that it is a good idea, but the old style was too. So how to make them enjoy it? Make it TWO MODES! Have a classic that has your typical hive and commander base setup, while power grid does the critical points.

Here's the pros of them

Classic -
-Allows for everyone to build anywhere, enabling the old laughter ensued hunt for the surviving humans and their crappy mini base, they can even win like that
-Keeps the combat fierce, no need to fight a dulled out battle of a "critical" spot, they are almost all equally valuable
-Gotta love scouting out the hive locations for aliens
-Makes the teams seem more diversified in strategy and thus, different (defending hive spots from aliens was a good old tactic)

Power Grid -
-Has a fresh new mode of gameplay
-More strategical
-Both teams are on more equal ground

If BOTH styles were included, no one could complain! I like the power grid idea, but I still wanna play CLASSIC STYLE!!!!!! Why not keep what works, but introduce alternatives? It'd be mostly mapper based modifications in the end anyways.

If they kept most of the stuff that works, then it wouldn't be a new game now would it? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
It would just be a slightly changed remake of the original, which I find less appealing. If I want to play pretty much the exact same NS1... well... I would.
And if they tried to make everyone happy it would be impossible to get the game out, never-mind on time. So as long as the majority is happy, the rest will just have to catch on I guess.
I do however agree that a classic mode could be fun, but I don't see why it wouldn't/shouldn't be released as mod rather than part of the actual game.
Considering they are using LUA, I wouldn't imagine this to be too tough.

I seriously hope UWE add their own Classic gamemode in the future, or with release.

That way everyone can have it without having to worry about trying to find the good classic mods from the bad ones.

pretty sure powergrid is a reworking of classic mode - as you know classic mode was not balanced and had many flaws

I say push on with Grid mode and have a classic mod (built by players after release)

I went through a range of feelings when I first read about the power grid concept, but all in all we will enjoy it better. I think of the whole concept as a game with definitive purpose- like the framework of a tent; HOWEVER, it would be nice if we could go "CLASSIC" play(officially supported I should add) without the safety equipment, so to speak, and play games under NS1's lack of rules.

It would be nice to have classic mode. But I don't think UWE can add that in by Fall 09. so yeah, it would have to be done by customizers. although why go backwards when you should be moving forward. dont resist change.
