The only game I will quit WoW for

Played NS from release to early 2.0. Played World of Warcraft since beta. Blizzard has gotten fat and lazy with their success and there is no longer any sense of reward from competitive play. PVE is a mindless repetition of keypresses week after week (My guild has completed Ulduar and majority of hard modes). PVP has become a button mash fest that relies on random number generation (Gladiator for 3 seasons).

Its been watered down to appeal to as many people as possible to pad their pockets further from mass subscriptions. Blame Vivendi or blame Activision, the game is just being raped by lame profit generation schemes such as card games, beer steins and figurines rather than focusing on pleasing the people who made it popular: The gamers.

I look forward to playing a game that rewards teamwork and DEDICATION. Not some junk that relies on its addictive community aspect to keep people hooked and generate revenue.

BRING ON NS 2! THE WORLD NEEDS A REAL GAME!

Are you really surprised that a business wants to make money? Unknown Worlds is a business too, you know. I would be really surprised myself if they haven't discussed ways of making NS2 more merchandise friendly. If I was an investor I would consider that irresponsible.

Not surprised a business wants to make money, I'm not an idiot. What I'm disappointed with is the focus on merchandising rather than improving the quality of their primary service. I could stomach a moderate balance, however their service is degrading and their selection of tangible junk is increasing.

For instance, their website used to advertise upcoming additions, community submissions and game features. Now their homepage advertisements consists mainly of T-Shirts, Card Games, Figurines, Comic Books, and frivolous micro-transaction based features such as name-changes and character customizations. The focus is no longer on servicing a community, its on leeching their wallets.

This is why I'm looking forward to NS 2. The devs actually listen to user feedback, which promotes the growth of their service and community. As a result NS 2 is going to be a fantastic game. Will UWE turn to the dark side after a couple of years of success? I don't know. But their current attitude and effort has won me over for now.

You go through all the reasons that WoW is a crappy game and then you decide that NS2 is the only game you'll quite WoW for? I would quit WoW even without another game to replace it, but there are plenty out today that beat it even ignoring NS2.

WoW may be going downhill now, but that wasn't always the case. When I originally started playing it I found it quite fun, but now I'm addicted to the community. I have convinced a large portion of the community I interact with to migrate to NS as I feel it is a better game and will have a comparable playability lifetime.

i don't mind at all that blizz gets money from wow, means more funding for games that DO matter to me: sc2 and d3!

and what does the blizz front page matter? doesn't wow have it's own homepage?

WOW is arguably the most successful MMO to date, and with all that success doesn't surprise me in the least that is becoming "watered-down". They have no real reason to add any major changes. I have a friend who is hopelessly addicted to WOW and he says its not the best game out there, but can't find a reason to quit. I myself have never really found MMO's to be all that fun anyway(paying monthly fees for my game never appealed to me) but understand why people play it. However I can not for the life of me figure out what makes it so addictive.

I keep telling myself I'm not missing anything but its hard when the people you hang out with play it (I have one friend who is a steam user like me).

I doubt you would stop playing World of Warcraft for very long, regardless of how awesome Natural Selection 2 is. When it gets released you're likely going to play it until you get sick, and if you decide to take a break, where will you turn to!? I'd keep that game in your pocket, just in case <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" /> Fortunately for me I got addicted to Guild Wars instead, and make no mistake, I am dropping everything for at least a month when Guild Wars 2 comes out.

Its partially addictive because it rewards actions that take A LONG time to do. Honor grinding, daily grinding, grinding to reach end game, farming mats for professions, farming instances for loot etc etc... It has rewards for doing things such as obtaining 100 mounts which is ridiculous.

Haha, I think maybe what he really meant was; NS2 is the only game that may well break his WoW-addiction!
Because we all know no one plays World of warcraft voluntarily, they're all mindless slaves to its drug-like influence.

But I can certainly see how NS2 might be that light at the end of the tunnel - it's shaping up nicely!

Well, it's nice to see the WoW community are still MinMaxing like their lives depended on it, because clearly you can't like two games at once.

Then again I guess this is a quirk with MMO players in general.

    you're still on wow?

I second that belief that no one quits WOW voluntarily, my friend almost destroyed his room looking for his time card, he never found it. Since then he has been a depressed state ever since.
