I mean, damn I had more luck with simple stuff like knifes.
We've got jetpacks, phase technology, nanomachines, and yet we're still using weaponry that fires lead projectiles instead of energy-based ammunition. Personally, I think the Frontiersmen are a bit late on the weapon side :/
It does look good, but as was said above, it looks more like one of today's weapons. The idea is to keep with the NS theme, that futuristic weapons won't necessarily be black, but the metal will be grey, or green-grey, something like that. I think the texture itself looks great, you should just be able to apply some color overlays to get it right.

I noticed you were looking for something to replace the scope. Maybe a laser pointer? I spose though that a laser pointer usually goes somewhere around the nozzle of the gun.
But i think a laser pointer on most of the guns in NS2 would be sweet.
Well, I hope the format UWE will use is easy to export into, because right now I've never had so much trouble exporting models into SMD files... Or at least on Maya. Never tried exporting with anything else.
Vi3trice: Why would lasers be more dangorous than bullets in the future? I mean, it's not certain (at least in our universe) that lasers would be more practical.
We're shooting encased Nanomachines in NS, not plain Bullets. At least thats the excuse why Friendlyfire is off by default and why we aren't able to penetrate the outer boundaries of Spaceships and -stations.
If we're using Lasers we wouldn't realy have a Chance to describe a Technology to counter Dangerous Effects besides an Energyconverter, but that still would be Light > Heat > Energy, and it still Hurts as Hell.

Sorry but i can'd disagree more... side clips are so ugly and inpractical... Their's not a single modern weapon in existence with a WWII british "sideclip"... In short lets give the side clip a rest... i already replaced all my ns1 weapon models and haven't seen a sideclip in years... so tired of that thing... all it does is partially block the screen... for a weapon that only makes noise... If we need a long narrow magazine,... then lets do it like the smg in doom3/p90 in reallife. Or do it like the H&K UMP45

Ugh how about the marine armor is like a super advanced solar cell / kinetic battery... it draws energy in many ways because it's made of advanced materials... so therefore it can absorb laser light... you'd be doing the marine a favor by shooting him so he can have extra power in his batteries. The walls of the ship could be a polymer that possess an ablative property. Like Apollo heat shields, and nomex, it would just char instead of catching fire....
There did i solve your little "this technology is impossible" problem.
I like the idea that bullet guns are still used in the future. It's a bit like saying paper won't be used in the future. We've had computers organizing offices for what, a good 30 years and we still use paper. The most organized offices use both a computer and a filing system. I'd like to think that weaponry will be the same. There are highly advanced weapons but in the end, bullet weapons are cheap and so they're still used in the future.
As for the gun brace, I was sort of imagining something which probably doesn't even exist yet. Most hunters who hunt with shotguns wear a sort of belt which provides padding on the right (or left if you're left-handed) shoulder which eases the kickback. For a marine with a gun with significant kickback but requiring it to be shot at an upwards angle, I'd imagine a sort of wedge built into the suit such that resting your grenade launcher against your body would always allow it to be positioned at a 45 degree angle. Imagine a strap on the gun which wraps around your neck to position the grenade launcher upwards and a 45 degree angled wedge with a rim to keep the butt of the gun from slipping.
I was thinking of a Cutout, partialy resting in the Armpit while the Gun is used, but that probs and pads the Kick of the Grenadelauncher while it allows to properly aim with that Thing, even upwards.

Nice model, I think Max mentioned that you can import COLLADA files easily. So I think thats .dae or .dxf extension, and Maya has that inbuilt. If they use their own format, then they should release translators soon after the game, or before!
Either way, the model is looking pretty cool.. I personally like the weapons with the clip behind the grip, and not perpendicular to the weapons side.
I agree with the whole "Why are they still using projectiles".. Unless it's the most effective thing against the Kharra, which kind makes sense, they could you use hollow point rounds, and those things ###### flesh up badly, and have stopping power.

Short version: Starwars lied to you. Lasers Suck.
Why: -Lasers with the power to actually do anything take up large reserves of energy. The problem isn't producing the energy - it's storing it in something small enough to make into a hand-held weapon, as well as then releasing the stored energy all at once. (Were talking in the thousands of watts) -Skin/Flesh doesn't heat up as fast as metal, thus making lasers less then effective at distributing lasting damage to organic material. -Star-wars style lasers that fire like conventional weapons are completely fake. Any real laser system needs to be able to keep the laser on target in order to heat it up. On target meaning in the exact same place.... your welcome to try to keep the laser on the same point on a skulk for more then a second while it's leaping/jumping around. I'll stick with my bullets.
Nice clean design so far however i'd personally edit to stock a bit to at least appear to collapse or fold over as its current length at looks a little odd.
Just a suggestion and in fairness though the original ns lmg was an odd length aswell.
If you need some inspiration google "magpul industries".

Ok, so we get laser's are impractical as weapons due to the hold on target for damage. What about plasma or other high energy particle weapons? Hell, you could even try talking neutron weapons, though that's probably kill you when you fire it...
