<div class="IPBDescription">Random question.</div>I just pre-ordered NS2 Special Edition. Will our Vet/Consti status carry over into NS2? I know it's not a huge deal but the recognition is nice. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" /> This may have been answered before in the forum so sorry if it's something I just missed.

Veteran icons went away when 3.0 came out?

    I liked my Vet medal. Wouldn't mind having it back <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink-fix.gif" />

Veteran icon will never come back, it used to mean something then at the end of 2.1 everyone had one.
  • Raza.Raza. Join Date: 2004-01-24 Member: 25663Members, Constellation
Everyone? I thought they were only given to players who signed up for that ATI tournament that never happened.
  • mf-mf- Join Date: 2008-06-17 Member: 64463Members
All i remember is that if you wanted one, you basically asked and it happened. Half of australian clan scene had it.

I've seen various threads through out the forums about this, all I can say is "Does it really matter?". No, and I don't care whether I don't get an icon in a game because it's not important.

Obviously it does, considering these threads keep popping up. To some, they either feel they've earned it, or they appreciate being recognised for helping.
Almost every financial backing these days comes with benefits, I don't see why this should be different, particularly as it is so trivial to implement.

It's a way of saying thank you, and particularly for recent donors (who haven't had their icon splashed around in game before), the only recognition one can get for their support.

TBH I hope none of the old icons make it into NS2.

But that they do new icons for ns2.
As people that got icons for ns got them for ns not ns2 and plus a lot of those people are no longer about.

I would guess maybe 50% of the competitive scene got them for 2.1 testing, which was maybe 10% of the total community. I'm guessing they would make up about 2% of the community now. Certainly less common that the const icons. Moving into NS2 I would venture to guess it would be less than 1%, so its pretty silly to say "everyone has one." I would love to see vet icons back.

    agree.

but i have to say vet icon has missed it's meaning when it was distributed, because all you had to do was to sign up your clan for this tournament which has nothing to do with a Veteran. Nevertheless it now has a meaning because it displays that youre around for a long time.

You said the world yourself, donor. And if you give a donation, you don't expect back it would just be nice. You're not an investor who expects something in return but you're a donor who does it off your own back, like a charity based system. Anyone who expects something back for donating to anything should not have done so in the first place.

Do I get a vet icon then? I've been around for a long time too, but I've never been involved in competitive play so I coudn't get the icon. Having an icon saying you have been around for awhile might not be a great idea either. If it's anything like the vet icon I remember there were a bunch of people pretty much saying "I have this icon, I'm better then you, listen to me"

I agree, i was around since 2 or 3 hours before the release (when we figured out that the server release actually worked to play! that was fun), and i did one of the first community maps, and never got an icon...

But jeah, it's just an icon anyway :-) just wanted to say that the vet icon isn't probably the best way to show that somebody has been here for a long time

Just sounds like the Vet icon in BF2142. I got it, yet I have the feeling that there are people who have been around longer than me and don't have the icon since it was sign-up based instead of being time-based with the account's creation.

    Something isn't right here.

Thaldy is arguing for sanity, rationality, and not caring about E-Peen.

Some one obviously hacked his account (or I was posting from the wrong proxy again...)

The vet icon was a way of marking competitive players who were attempting to balance upcoming builds for the clan scene.

Just keep them on the forums, not in NS2

Icons for NS vets may merely cause a rift between players , a donation icon for those that donated (Constilation) is fine... a vet icon is mistaken for a player of importance.

Last time I checked almost every donor receives a little something in return for their giving...

    I gave blood a month ago. I received a t-shirt.
I gave two bags full of clothes to Goodwill. Tax deduction! Yay!
I ran a 10k for cancer victims. I actually had to pay money but I got a t-shirt!

My point is... just because you donate doesn't mean you don't expect anything... normally you get a "constellation gift". Of course, any gift you receive in return for your donation should not be the reason for the donation.

I had a Vet icon and I have the constellation icon. I had the vet icon only because I was in a clan at the time. And the constellation icon was my way of saying thanks to the developers. At the time, the vet icon "overrided" the constellation icon but I donated anyhow.

It's nice that you added the word "almost." It would of been dumb otherwise since I've donated plenty of stuff and didn't get anything in return.

Donation MEANS giving something with out expecting anything in return. If you get something, cool, it is their way of thanking you, just don't expect it. Also please don't ever demand it as it just makes you look like a tool, and that is what we are all getting at. You donated to UWE, be happy that you did. If they implement the constie icons they will, if they don't? So what? I really doubt they will implement vet icons as I think that program is officially dead (with a bad taste left over).

Also, the phrase you were looking for, I must assume, is "consolation gift", however that is still the wrong term (consolation gift = "sorry <bad thing happened> here is something to make up for it"). The correct phrase would have been "a thank you gift" (or something along those lines).

    Random note:
Any one still happen to have a link to the old story they posted when first activating the constie program? It explained the name and was rather cool.
