It's also been said that almost all the game code is implemented in LUA, so modifying this shouldn't be hard.
We are getting all the tools with the game, so there is no separate SDK release. I'm guessing we will have access to the code as early as the alpha (You can't really distribute LUA code without giving the source for it)
It hasn't been said, but the site in my signature would be a good place for this. Oh wait, now it has been said <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
The entire game is made in LUA, so you can make any game mode you can think of basically. I am sure there may be some limits (good luck making a space sim <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />) but MvM and AvA should be no problem.
The pre-sale includes the tools to make the game (they may not be given right away, but sometime during the alpha/beta). As for running a server, the alpha will be limited to their own servers at first but eventually the server will be given out. No timeline on that has been given.
It'll probably be easier than it was to get MvM/AvA in NS1. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />
But... if that's just your personal opinion, Badmouth, as in, taking your post literally that's what YOU'D [not] do, and I've overreacted, then that's fine. But don't be leading other poor sheep astray.
Now, allow me to lead this thread astray... Justifying the two modes would be quite simple:
MvM: let's just call it "war games" or "splinter factions"
AvA: we'll just call it "colony rivalry"
GORGEBALL!
Now, there has to be something that'd set it aside from a regular first person shooter, or sports game with alien and marine skins.
Perhaps the gorge ball is a player itself?
Maybe supported for players who like it, but not in a official gamemode
Wow that would be an intense game, the strategies that could be used, wow
My God, the genius of it.
For example I'd hate if people take a game like Chess and start coming up with their own rules and ideas. Chess was well thought through and nobody should be messing with it trying to come up with their own version.
I can already see how there are going to be 100 different servers, with different prices for structures, different health points etc
I wish they just made 1 game mode that works well...

You're boring.
Variety is the spice of life.
if you don't want to play any custom gamemodes, don't join those servers - simple as that.
Anyway, I think AvA would be pretty cool. Imagine a flock of skulks fighting an onos, lol epic.
Damn, just think of it, the possibilites are endless and it's only $20.
Capture the flag like in Battlefield? just go buy Battlefield.. :<
I love NS. and I am just afraid that people will be playing dumb games like Siege and combat instead of learning the concept and gameplay of true NS.

It's kinda the whole point of modding. I'll be playing NS2 the way it was meant to be played the most, but still, it would be fun to have all sorts of different types of games to play.
So you know how the game is 'meant' to be played, already?

You <i>really</i> think the concept was thought up all at once, and there were never modifications to the rules or pieces?
Some Lord somewhere probably thought that 10 Rooks was O.P., and had to come up with new units to put between the corners.

Again with the magical foresight. Is it really a problem that this game may get so famous as to have 100 or more different servers, with people interested enough to modify it into something different, possibly catering to a non-player's wishes, and enticing them to buy the game?
Some fan you are.

You are afraid of people playing Natural Selection 2?
<!--quoteo(post=1717841:date=Jul 17 2009, 02:25 PM:name=SjN)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (SjN @ Jul 17 2009, 02:25 PM) <a href="index.php?act=findpost&pid=1717841"><{POST_SNAPBACK}></a></div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->instead of learning the concept and gameplay of true NS.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Well, yes, I've read that they want to keep to the same feel of Natural Selection 1, but they obviously want to improve on the idea.
/snarky
I would looove to see Same Team #1 vs Same Team #2. Clans that boast specific teams can face off against similar clans.
The idea of 1v1v1v1 teams that someone came up with sounds like a blast. All these different teams, choosing separate strategies, fighting for nodes. Woo!
I could see the teams being painted different hues. Variations with Marines would have different armor, more or less luster, different shades, slightly different armor shapes.
Aliens could have little parts of their bodies that are a certain color, or just slightly different shapes, as if bred differently that the other teams.
I say teams because Alien vs Alien vs Alien vs Marines would be killer. A 32 player server would only be 8 player teams. Only 7 players fighting at one time for a single team would be pretty incredible. Strategies would thrive. Little raiding parties would have to be formed, because 1 alien running into 2 marines would be pretty deadly.
Love the idea.
MORE IDEAS.
SjN; Es Tea'eff ewe.
Hm. Maybe if the Onos was a player, and the Onos had constant bone shields up, so it goes slow!
An Ai-controlled Onos would suck. It would have to follow the path, and your idea probably just include invulnerable Onos'.
I got an idea to go with yours! No AI, all player controlled. One player chooses the Onos, and other players choose whichever lifeforms they want to upgrade/be skilled at/supplement the Onos. Marines defend against them with WHATEVER they have, Sentries, grenades, flanking, piles of corpses. Anything! :D.
And instead of the map being linear, have the map as-if; tons of ways to flank so the Onos' charge can be different each time. Maps won't get stale.
Just like in the game, the Onos can take damage, but reduced, because if it is in the Push The Onos game, then it will have it's Bone Shields.
Also, instead of there being a bomb site or something that copies Team Fortress 2, there will simply be the Command chair, which has life equal to that in a normal game, so players no when to expect it to die.
The Onos can die of course, and choose a different path to the Command chair.
Guess what I just did.
I just described a normal game of Natural Selection.
Just assign someone to be Onos, back him up, you know, like a <u>team</u>, and try to win.
I am from the past where single mode in NS (NS 1.0 and 2.0) worked out pretty well, and easily became the best mod in half-life. You don't need to have bunch of mods for NS to make the game good. It was already good and I am sure the way it will be meant to be played is way better than any mod that someone will come up with.
I'm sure that some people will make some pretty weird mods, but anything that gets more people who would otherwise be uninterested in Natural Selection 2 is a good thing.
Also, I'm pretty sure the more people we get interested in it before it comes out, and having them purchase the special edition package would only INCREASE THE AWESOME.
Also2; more people to pwn in Alpha and Beta.
Modern chess originated from (i.e. was modified from) medieval European chess, which originated from ... which originated from ... all the way back to an ancient indian "chess" game. The japanese, koreans and thais also have their own versions of "chess" which originated from the same roots but are clearly different games.
"Chess", and all its cousins, would not <b>exist</b>, if it weren't for people "trying to come up with their own version".
This is what aliens vs predator 2 had... their were colonial marines and then their were "corporate" security forces that wore black and used counterfeit-manufactured pulse rifles.
So it'd be cool if the green marines had to fight the aliens and the evil marines. Hey in AVP2 the green marines had to fight the invisible predators as well lmao. Actually i think the same can be said for AVP 1... xD
