UWE should ignore it's community, and soon.

Seriously.
I don't know when it happened exactly, but I've become quite infatuated with UWE, it's team, and of course NS2. I think it's great that they're taking ever precaution for the development process, and I love that they're very open with their development status. Far too few teams are willing to "open the kimono" at this stage... Unfortunately, I think the UWE or maybe more specifically NS2 community can't handle that privilege. What makes me say that? The tazer.
The feedback from the tazer has been varied, for sure. Some love it, some hate it... and that's perfectly reasonable, it just doesn't mean ######. Let me direct you to a favorite article of mine: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/v...416-Youre-Wrong
While I believe community input on certain matters can be valuable, UWE is shooting itself in the foot if they listen to the community at this stage. They should not be altering their designs because the "hardcore" group thinks it's stupid. They should be making the game exactly the way they see fit. If they sway too easily on these matters, then it's only going to snowball into a much larger problem.
I don't have enough time to devote to typing this out as I'd like, so I'll leave it with this:
I hope you took the time to read that article, Charlie, Max, Corey, and Matt. Make your game. Worry about what we think later. Godspeed!

1) Initial design. Get a fell for what works, what doesn't. this is crucial for novice designers, but more seasoned devs can ignore this because they should know what works and what doesn't. Do some research, check out reviews. If this is a sequel of a big hit, pay attention to what people said about the previous game and think about ways to improve.
2) Testing. First and foremost, if you're not stress testing, only let a coveted few in. Believe it no not, the masses are morons when it comes to proper beta/alpha testing. Most will just fiddle around and play, not actually test or seek out glitches and bugs and the like. Betas have become the pre-release fandom party zomg I got to play it before everyone else, not a testing ground of features. So, if you're feature incomplete, don't let in the masses.
3) Post-release. Time to patch.
I'm afraid you are:

:D
So regarding the topic, should the devs listen to your advice / you as part of the community?
hm...this is difficult..
That's not to mean we shouldn't give feedback or the likes. Just that we shouldn't be listened to a whole lot. Our oppinions can go into consideration, but then get thrown out as the article says. That way the devs can still listen to us for those few and rare really good ideas/feedbacks, but filter out all the crap.
Run with your ideas guys.
Besides, the tazer is the most refreshing new idea I've heard for an fps in a long time and it seems very realistic and fitting for the NS world. I'm glad to see you guys are still taking risks - risks are what separate the good from the great.
I'm afraid you have....
Oh wait :(
Don't you guys just love the irony in that statement?
Isn't this kinda ironic?
DOES ANYONE THINK THIS IS IRONIC OR AM I THE ONLY ONE?
This also flips in reverse as thinking something is amazing without experiencing it. The reality is, there are very few people who can truly imagine what will be fun, and what will balance gameplay. It's something I'm sure the dev's have gotten used to.
