Close Range Weapon for Heavy Armor

An alternative to the standard issue Combat Knife
When I played with heavy armor in NS1 and exhausted both pistol and primary's ammo, I didn't really figure a combat knife was not a very practical fall-back weapon for someone in such a large suit to use to engage hostiles with. So what I thought would be more effective for the Heavy Armor to utilize instead would be a built in blow-torch on one of the arms. Acting as a short-range flamethrower but balancing it enough to be just as more of a defensive weapon to ward off skulks trying to chew away at you. More or less since I figure a reason why it would suit the heavy armor is that they'd normally send those people into areas with heavy biological infestation that would obstruct their way or even gorge webbing (if that's going to be returning in NS2) so using a bit of fire to clear a path would make their job easier rather than trying to hack their way through with a small blade.

I guess I could concept a basic design if this sounds ideal. But it's just a suggestion like my fire-frag idea.

You could do it like how they did it for heavy armour in Dystopia. The super punch. Of course, it is just purely aesthetic. It doesn't really bother me as the gameplay is there.

No, that already causes enough "fisting" jokes. But, by the way they seem to talk about wanting to reduce the number of models they have to make, I doubt they'd be interested in giving the heavy something different.

I think the heavy armor is fine the way it is. It just needs a new design and look.

I quite like this idea, but I just like flamethrowers in general.

It'd be a nice addition, whether it welds is up to Dev's, I'd like it if it did xD

It should be a built in super-weilder. Weilding like a weilder, but having a blow-torch flamethrower attack.

A built in wielder is an awesome idea. A short burst flame thrower secondary attack would be even sweeter !

Would be cool if you could grab skulks with one hand then toast em with your wielder :D

What gets me is the first person quoted the proper spelling and the follow-up poster spelt it wrong again... O.O

BRILLIANT!!! a flame thrower, for heavy only, is perfect! (aliens are OP)

Actually, having the taser built into the arm of the heavy might not be a bad idea, because if a Heavy suit is big like I imagine, holding on to something small like the taser would seem a bit impractical. I'm not sure how much extra work it is coding one marine to do something visually different with the same weapon.

I imagine it as the marine having the taser mechanism in the palm of his hands so that he kind of reaches forward and "lays on hand" instead of punching. This would also help make the constant damage application effect that the taser has look right, whereas a punch would look a bit odd.

A short range flamethrower, nothing too serious. It's just something used to counter biological dynamic infestation if it blocks a passage, or gorge 'webbing'.

Saves the soldier res, and prevents the other Bane of HA, Webs, a Webbed HA is dead, worse than a webbed JP.

I actually think the built in welder is an amazing idea. Seriously, I have been stuck with HA in many a game without a welder simply because comm didn't drop enough (or any at all). It also strengthens the image of the HA as a hazardous utility suit.

Well, HA in NS2 is called Exo-Suit
the HA in NS1 was meant to be a Closed Full Assault Combat Armor, designed to enter gas hazardous areas and heavy infestation zones :D Welder=Perfect

A flamethrower attached to one of the heavies arms would be awesome. If the flamethrower does more damage to aliens with less armor and virtually nothing to aliens with higher armor, it could be fairly balanced. Skulks usually do not have armor in combat, having a flamethrower doing only Health damage would be interesting to see.
