Mounted mini gun

I think a mounted mini gun would make a good addition to Natural Selection.
It would be something that the Commander would spawn in a given spot, and set it's direction. This would be good for defending long hallways or doors inside a hive.
The drawback would be overheating (meaning they can fire for so long until they have to wait for it to cooldown) and that they would not get cover from behind (unless marines are protecting them).
If anything, it'd kind of be like a Heavy Machine Gun that's mounted, but stronger and with either infinite ammo, or a crap ton of ammo.
The mounted minigun would not be able to be carried by marines, as that would probably be unfair for the aliens.
This just came into my head, so it probably needs some more thought put into it.

EDIT - i'm guessing this is left 4 dead inspired?

I think the idea is for it to be more powerful then those turrets... something for use in hallway defense, phase-gate defense, and giant custom map defense, and be deadly against fades and oni. Marines are supposed to be the attackers and yet the NS2 Onos is a "disruptor" for breaking through the marine-defenses... it's sort of weird but proves marines need a variety of defensive weaponry (like turrets). I think it could fit into the game.
What if it was drivable... like you drive it into position and then you can cover an area, or one marine drives your little golf cart and you man the Gatling gun. (Yes CC's should be drivable, like in Empires mod, as well... why hasn't anyone suggested that yet :P)
Edit: I'm a bit tired, just look at the above post.
Not a fan of mini-guns though, I mean they could come up with something more original.
marines would be invincible trying to hold down a location where as aliens would get dominated and leave.
no
You know... you right. In effect, it doesn't make sense because marines can put down 50 turrets in one area and unless their's a gorge to bile bomb, that the defense could work... unfortunately most maps have just 4 or 5 rts and marines never get the res to try interesting tactics beyond giving everyone shotguns. The best the commander can do is give out a pack of mines to defend a PG.
The problem is the game is boring. Every response is pre-determined... Drop a pg = give out mines... Taking a hive = give out shotguns... Sieging last hive = give out jp ftw... Trying to make a team full of win = give out HA... Playing a siege map? = You now have res to give out hmgs.
So you want an even more powerful turret that also costs you a man off the field? I'd say an auto turret with a LMG/Shotgun/HMG marine standing right behind it will probably be just as or even more effective.
I don't think this idea adds enough variety to the game. Also it's use would seem super specialized. Overall, not feeling the manned turrets.
Off-topic. Would love more auto-turret options/upgrades.

yes because left 4 dead invented the mounted minigun that overheats in a video game <_<
Do you mean we'll be able to mount our HMG on the floor or wherever?
You self or a fellow marine in the way? Happy trip to the spawn queue (ignores friendly fire settings)
