Ideas for NS2 trailer

...can't hurt to discuss this.
Seeing as a lot of people will get their first impression of NS2 once the trailer comes out. I thought it's be a good idea to discuss what we think would make a good trailer for NS2. What should the music be like? What kind of images/clips should be shown? How can the trailer convey the originality on the NS universe and capture it's viewer's. I know there's a lot of creativity in these forums (very little coming from me) so let loose.
What inspired this topic was me listening to the following song in my car the other days and thinking that the intro may fit an NS2 trailer. Of course that wholly depends on what we are shooting for. Give the first 50 seconds a listen...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4nG302UCso
I'm not saying to use this song but that the melancholic mood of its vocal may fit the first half of a trailer. Maybe this could catch the viewers attention emotionally connecting with the despair and humanity of the marines (especially with the use of vocals). Actually story wise I think that NS2 is the war compared to NS1 being the first contact. However I'm not clear if the humans are supposed to be winning or losing the war at this point. Second half of the trailer should be stronger music.
Another alternative is the music in Mojok's NS2 fan video. That Epic intro music was the best thing about the video.
Anyway the thread is not just about this idea but about all our ideas.

It is too happy.
We need some extreme hardcore killing ###### music.
That would get some attention.

I predict starting with small glimpses of alien life/structures and marine technology during the "what is it really that's going on here?" intro and then bursting into action scenes when the song gets faster/heavier about 40 seconds in.
Not a bad intro, but the rest of the music doesn't quite fit imo. Either it had to go more techy or more pumped, but it straddled the two too much for too long imo. Maybe cut the music to jump to the chorus, but it's a bit grating.

The first 50 seconds are pretty melancholic if you ask me. Not happy at all. The rest of the song may be more upbeat but I was not talking about that part.
Hardcore killing music is PRECISELY what I want to avoid. It would make NS2 seem like a mindless game, if you use music that evokes emotions then it would show that NS2 has more depth that your average shooter. Of course part of the trailer should also showcase the epic action side of NS2. The pacing of the trailer could be something like.
***quiet scenes/slower music: fighting for years, outnumbered, many loss, whole planets overrun, frustration, despair, etc... but WE the marines are all that stand in the way of our own extinction... action scenes/music.***
I wrote that intentionally in a generic way. I'm hoping the trailer does not come out generic at all.
I think using the them of extinction and/or survival of the fitness would be a great link to the title of the game.
About "Powerman 5000 - When Worlds Collide".
I didn't like anything beyond like 10-15 seconds.
Definitively going to find perhaps a slightly better track (it's short) and look into the idea of a trailer (it's fun to do storyboard mock-ups!)
...speaking of music... when are we going to hear more samples from the NS2 OST? So far it's been very scarce with that, besides the videocast, teaser-trailer and teaser-reveals of course.
Also, is the intro music in Mojok's NS2 video theirs, or is it a track that UWE gave them? It does feel quite professional.
Anyway, while I agree that we shouldn't go for the mindless killing game image, I don't think a slow melancholic trailer is the best solution either. Ideally, I'd like to see a trailer with music that's at a decent tempo (at least at times; slower or faster bits could be used for a nice effect) and visuals that show off a lot of what the games about.
-Marines in groups acting as a team
-Skulks in vents and shadows stalking marines
-Marines upgrading in technology
-Infestation spreading / knocking out lights
-Marines powering on a room
-A fade blinking in, killing a marine, and blinking out before anyone has had a proper chance to react
-Marines phasing into a hive siege
Those kinds of things. I'm no professional at these kinds of things, but I think you get what I mean. Show more than just fighting scenes while still retaining enough action and badassery to attract new people.
This song could be used for the "funny" trailer : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sMZwZiU0kKs...feature=related
Play this song (certain parts IE weapon of choice) and have a heavy marine with a minigun running around blowing ###### up.
Pretty good trailer if u ask me. :D
Probably something from 1:00 to 2:04 then 2:33 to 3:12
It is more technoish like you guys said.
Just throwing ideas out.

omg liek dis iz da choyse rite hur. Didn't realize you were a troll and not just an idiot until this post :p
And just so this post actually contributes to the conversation: The best option for music, if time allows, would be an original track made specifically to fit the trailer. But When Worlds Collide would be nearly as cool :p

Those kinds of things....
On second listen I agree the tempo and style could fit well with the trailer. I think the guys voice turned me off the idea, like it's ok but not for the trailer. I still hold with that.
Agreed on showing infestation among other things for sure. Also there should be several scenes showing the commander point of view.

This song could be used for the "funny" trailer...
Hah! I love that song! The funny trailer is surely something we could do as a viral fan trailer using some good alpha footage. This song would definitely fit well will some marine ownage footage. Surely we should make sure we show only features which are sure to go in the final build.

I call dibs on the fan made trailer!!!
hehe
don't expect it to be good.
A random video, but as you can see, it starts off slow, somethings happening, then music beats up, the ODST runs and then bam..
Another example of something that is different is a
A marine is on the floor, blood on his face and 10 dead scientists around him, a slaughter fest. Many dog like creatures are dead and another marine is coughing out blood, the marine calls for help and then medpack starts forming out of hte ground from nanites.as he goes to grab it some bacterial growth rapidly fight off the med packs nanites and its gone. The marine pulls up his weapon and attempts to help his "mate". The guy is dying and he does a half dead attempt at putting up his finger, pointing behind the marine trying to revive him. A humanoid figure, is watching, then it seems to fade off into the dark corridor. All of a sudden many more of those "dog like creatures" run up at him down the corridor, using a rush tactic jumping off walls throwing off his aim, last resort*FLUNK* is all you here then an explosion, his last grenade round was just used. he reloads his clip. a disgusting noise is around the corner, he investigates, and you can see a fat hing with his head almost stuck into a mess of the bacteria, the marine almost shoots it out of horror then he sighs in relief, it turns around and sprays some acidic substance in his face but it nicks him on the shoulder burning him, he yells and shoots it but it seems to take up a defensive stance.. .
The marine runs away but is hit by a spiky substance, a flying creature swoops him just as he slams its face with his rifle while it was swooping him again. He then proceeds to Slash it with his knife till its dead.
*Commander, i need orders*
*SHH shol*sholdier hold u*static*
The marine sighs, first time you see him sitting down, in third person, he had black armor in, in contrast to his fellow soldiers with greenish gray armor.
all of a sudden the door he's leaning against cracks, and his slammed
It starts to break, he quickly runs too the other side of the room, its clogged up with this gooey bacteria just stronger, unbreakable. must have formed within the minutes he was fighting the aliens as it was the only way back to base.
He braces for his last stand, a huge massive beast, standing over him like a rhino to a deer(lion w/e is more descriptive)
then all of a sudden, the wall weakens, he can see through it, jumping through it almost getting stuck the thing charges, the powers back on! the nanites are fighting the infestation he runs to the next room through acorridor with the thing flinging all of the tables around the ground chasing after him *BAM, he hits his head. he prays. holding his symbol of religion on his chest. then he gets lifted up, a huge thing with 2 .. well miniguns is standing over him. *CONTACT* *GUNFIRE* An entire squadron of reinforcements.
ok so i came up with alot of ideas this extended a lot, it will get very boring for the people who are watching so i decided if we cut off the last bit where hes running from the onos, so basically
Hes running away, puffing you know running away. then it shows that he falls over, something happens, he becomes helpless, then all seems lost a helping hand comes out of nowhere, and it shows a small gunfire and at the end of it, the marine who was running at the start someting happens, such as a fade hits him over then is about to finish him as he pulls out a gun, and the trigger goes BAM ns2 logo.
a darkish moody hallway, eerie music almost quiet
a squad of are huddled up near a door(gear and armor rustling sounds), they confirm that it is locked using hand signals, then one of them nods, and the they start to weld it open (aliens 2 intro when riply is found + aliens to when hudson runs a bypass on the colonely main doors)
the door falls open
The sergeant marine, says we go in on 3, he counts, 1, 2... and just before he says 3
A fade blinks in and kills the marine closest to the door, and then all hell breaks loose, the hallway is lit up with flashes from the guns getting fired in all directions, lots of radio chatter and shouting, flame thrower going off etc
skulks getting shot all over the place
first person view - the camera then rushes down a hall, first upside down, the when it turns the corner, it is becomes attached to the wall - (we now know its a skulk from the movement), after the gun fire flashes can now be seen at the end of the hall way, the skulk turns yet another corner, drawn to the noise and light, the sergent is in the skulks view, the skulk leaps and at that very moment the sergent turns to face the skulk - the camera moves rapidily into an exteme close up of the sergents angry face, then camera fades out (the sergeant is probably dead)
the camera then pans across a room and hallway which shows the remains of a heavy battle, dead aliens, lonely guns and ammo everywhere, bullet holes, claw marks, power / lights going on and off
a gorge happily slides past :)
followed by infestation
Halo theme?
What the hell..
This isn't like some ###### mod made by a bunch of 10 year olds.
Real studio, real pros. Why would they use the halo theme?
It would make them look retarded and get them sued.
