Marine Speed

<div class="IPBDescription">too fast ?</div> I was thinking if the marines (without Heavy Armour) are too fast? They are almost as fast as a skulk without celerity. Their backpedalspeed are realy nice and slow, but the sidestepspeed is too fast imo. The running speed should be lowered a tad and the sidestep speed should be lowered too.

And how about not being able to jump while fireing your gun or something? It just looks silly to see a marine in a realy heavy metallic armour, jump around like mad, while a small skulk is running around hes legs. And it also makes the game feel much more DMish.

    I suppose it was only a matter of time. Seems like there is always something people are uunhappy about that seems to make the game uunfair or unbalanced.

    Instead of insulting people, try creative criticism.

    I really hate getting squashed as a fat old gorge early game because some skulk idiots decided they don't like parasiting rambo marines wandering around picking on random structures and gorges <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

    As for an opinion, I think the slower backwards motion was a good idea (this was used in the oldschool FPS Marathon (1,2 and infinity), one of the best IMO). The sidestep could be slowed down, I've learned to do a sorta side to side motion with the strafe keys to back out of dangerous areas faster than if I had used the backwards key, and safer than if I had turned around and ran.. *shrug* I think it shouldn't matter, because it's not very practical to do what I just stated.

    Im not unhappy with the current speeds.

    Im just thinking that lowering the speeds will make the game more tactical, and not just "jump-as-much-as-you-can-while-wearing-a-100kg-heavy-armour".

    Lowering speeds won't make the game more tactical...it'll screw the Marines even more. They're already almost too-slow to take out a Skulk in a room; and you can't even really back away from them while firing at this point.

    If you want to decrease forward movement speed, increase backward movement speed by a ratio of 1/2.

    You shouldn't be able to shoot while you jump, and there should be a stamina bar.

    well i think they should have all the marines spawn in wheelchairs with no guns and big pieces of cotton candy and a happy face for a head.

    and the aliens should all have bubble gum dispensers instead of weapons, and they should all look like cute little puppehs and kittehs.

    and then the object of the game should be to see whoever can give the most 'big hugz' to the other team.

    Well, I ran into my first bunch of strafe-jumping marines today. Sorry, but strafe-jumping/bunny-hopping that allow marines to move <i>backwards</i> faster than a skulk can leap and still fire at said skulk is simply not in the spirit of the game and insanely unbalancing.

    Obviously they can't make it so marines can't jump or move, but something needs done about strafe jumping and it needs done soon.

    And yes I know bunny-hopping is not the same thing as strafe jumping, but I don't really care and it's not a point that's relevant to the discussion at hand.

    This is the future, perhaps they've found some super strong lightweight metal to compose their armor of

    Look at a spider web, spiders silk (proporsionally of course) is 5x stronger then steel, but it's super light, why is that? I don't know, but it is

    So maybe they're perfectly mobile in said bit of armor and able to jump like a 5 year old

    also I have absoleutely no problem dodging marines fire, just run circles (broad, not enclosed) around them and then they empty their clips, then run up for the kill, and I have never EVER seen a marine jump faster then my skulk can leap / jump

    In less you count bunny hopping, but aliens can bunny hop as well, let's nerf them too!

    Oh and stamina bars, yah they're fine and all, but give aliens them too, if a marine has stamina then a Fade does too. (Jumping doesn't do anything for the yellow stamina bar, that's what I'm talking about)

    It's also POWER ARMOUR. Which means it's powered. Which means it ENHANCES the Marine's strength. So they're stronger in it than not. Which means there's really no reason they shouldn't be able to jump. Or run full speed or faster, honestly.

    Since the Power Armour is lo light and powerfull why do you move so slowly while wearing one? Why dont they move at the same speed as a normal marine?

    This game isn't realistic, the speed is fine imo I even think the backward speed is too slow. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> But I don't think the speed should be decreased in any way, just look at fades, they run away from light marines, and hey! they're yadayada bigger and yadayada stronger... see the point?
