egg casings

The game should leave egg casings after aliens evolve to a different lifeform.
Presumably, the game would limit the number of casings in an area for performance reasons.

This would be mostly a visual effect -- however, I'd be interested to see ideas on how it could contribute to gameplay.

In terms of little things like that that I love in games, I always get a huge kick when games leave expended magazines lying around, as well as bullet casings :D

It might be handy to see where aliens are often evolving so you could spawn camp the next one :)

And, since the idea of Alien appropriate sized eggs is a very fonded idea, you can see WHAT they are turning into

actually, this is a pretty cool idea. i too like it when bullet scaring, blast marks and such are left on the battlefield. (doesnt have to be for ever, but have a cap that maybe players could adjust individually)
and it would be cool to stumble upon a huge broken egg and realize it was an onos gestation...and that hes now roaming around, out there somewhere...! 0_0

I think egg casings might be too big to be an individual setting... they would need to be collidable, it would feel a bit silly being able to walk through egg casings. Anything collidable like that needs to exist for everyone. Unless egg casings were pretty much shattered into small bits?

I presume they would be either non-blocking or blocking and destroyable.

If they were blocking, that could add an interesting piece to the game...
Skulk 1> I'm about to go onos!
Skulk 2> Oh, go to the north hallway before you egg. That way the marines are blocked for a few moments while they destroy the egg.
Skulk 3> Ok, what jerk went lerk inside the main vent?!
    Lerk> HA! Eat that egg!

The casings don't need to be hard shells. They could be fluid-filled sacks that leak liquid if shot during evolution. That means empty ones can be just rubbery shreds (fallen apart as the top ripped open) that can flop around (rooted to the floor or whatever) but don't need to be blocking or anything.
