random or aliens, freedom to explore maps as skulk and sneak up on marines before they know the ins and outs will be fun. i'm hoping the marine stacking won't happen so much in ns2. i think the problem was marines was simply much more beginner friendly, it used very familiar mechanics (basic FPS) and you had a commander handling most of the strategy and telling you what to do. aliens on the other hand was a completely new gameplay, and the lack of central command meant it was much more of a thrown in the deep end scenario. Also, the alien game changed a lot more over the course than marines did. All the marine upgrades were fairly familiar, and didn't really change play style much (it was still just point and shoot), whereas the unlocked alien classes and abilities were completely different to the skulk so the learning curve was hugely steep compared the the very gentle marine curve.
With ns2, the central command is there to help new aliens know what to do, cut-back set of abilities means less to learn (although i hope more abilities get added later on... ns2.2.0?), and "alien" gameplay is not such a new concept for people to adapt to now, after NS, L4D, (various other games i haven't played), so hopefully marines won't feel overpowered due to noob friendliness this time.

only if you're a baddie.
And besides if its everyones first time and everyone looks like a retard, isn't that just all good and well anyways?
Marines are for the weak who rely on ranged weapons, thinking it'll save their sorry asses from getting killed..! (alright, It probably will in some cases, but that's not the point!)
I always F2, then F3 inmediately. Since I'd rather play aliens but not enough to wait around.

Are you kidding? Joining server on launch day without anyone knowing exactly what to do is something I missed for NS1 (wasn't there 02/10/31) and I won't miss it for NS2! It'll be like a launch party! I'll sure it will be more fun and less competitive early on.

And gorge, of course, in an attempt to make the first NS2 game ever played a successful gorge rush! Legendary!
