'Empty Edges'?

A peculiar feature / bug... I'm not sure which one it is.
Say you have a normal cube room.
If you draw a square on a face, but your first click is NOT on an edge, the square cuts into the face like it should.
But if your first click is on an edge, the square does not cut into the face. Instead it makes an empty square of edges.
I don't even know, is this a feature or a bug?

If it's a welded/extruded cube it works. If you build it wall-by-wall then it doesn't work, unless you move the wall into the void on its own without touching the floor/ceiling.
I've also noticed that selecting all the edges it's created and trying to create a face from them doesn't work.
This has already been posted a few times (in the stickied bug thread, and in a thread started on Friday iirc), as well as the workaround.
Thank god, this was the most frustrating aspect of the Spark editor. Good to know it's getting taken care of.
