Agreed - where are you guys getting the Hive model from?
slayer20 you should join #nsmapping and get involved in discussion.
I believe it would help you greatly in seeing what other people are doing which you aren't taking on board and will help you get better and more criticisms. When we talk of course =]
I hope the layout of this map is not representative of the layout of all NS2 maps.
It seems way to simplistic compared to the maps that I am use to, it's even less complex than some combat/siege maps. It is annoying that the devs want to go simpler.
Then again, this map is set in a mall and malls are built with a simple layout in mind. Add lots of vents and maintenance walkways, like how NS_Origin has a vent system that lets aliens move around the entire map.

Not a great update. I've been bugged about this texture error stuff, and the editor is giving me some graphical problems (which I think happens because it's trying to load too much).
I've started work on the Food Court area, now that I actually have a design for it written down.
You can see the badly sketched restaurants in the background. There is also a drop off at the bottom that will lead to a lower floor. The floor is un-accessible and only just for looks. The red area will be replaced with some kind of small netting of some kind. Something that doesn't look out-of-place, or that looks like it was just put there to specifically make it look like to was to block players and structures.
I do believe I will make it so that players can build structures there, as it would be a good spot for aliens to build things like SCs and what not.

Afterburner Burgers xD the logo could be a thruster shooting flames onto a burger. Which makes me wonder... there are no cows in space. Where does the meat come from?

Stupid reason to change it imo.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I don't think you should change the map's name, but IMHO the logo should be changed if you want to submit the map for official inclusion. The logo - altough it does look quite nice - just screams "japanese anime catgirl" in your face, a style that in my opinion doesn't fit the TSA. I'm not saying there can't be anime or comic paintings in NS, however I think if you find it in-universe it'll be far more likely as a nose art on a TSA vehicle or as an actual anime/comic book lying around somewhere.
On the matter of ns_shiva: Since there seems to be quite a tradition to name military ships (especially in Sci-Fi settings) after mythological and sometimes foreign-religious figures it's plausible for the TSA to name a station "shiva" and giving it a iconic logo.
just my 2 cents (pretty sure you don't care anyway, unless it's a dev making an official statement)

I knew someone would bring this up :P
You have to remember that the setting is taking place on a Japanese made cruise ship. This doesn't mean I'm going to plaster anime billboard signs all over the place. If anything, this logo is probably the most anime-ish thing you'll see. (maybe besides some easter eggs :3)
The logo is going to be used sparingly as well. There's really no reason to put it in every room and hallway. It might just end up in one spot, and not really be in the way.

Yeah, most of the signs will have both English and Japanese written on them. I'm trying to make the signs as simple as possible since I don't know Japanese, and Google can only go so far.
Comments
I forgot to mention I still have to add secondary routes and vents. The routes you see there are mainly for the Onos.
EDIT: You have what look like two big spawns and small tech rooms. Tech rooms need to have the same head room and ability to build upon as spawns.
And everything looks "square" because I haven't done anything to the rooms yet. They're just plain floors.
And as I said, this are just the main passages for the Onos. I still have to add secondary routes.

However there's about 100 AFK'ers
Ah - thank you kindly.
Also, custom wall texture and placeholder water.

That's what custom textures are for!

Updated image of the fall off area. This area will be un-accessible by both Aliens and Marines.
Also, Space Burgers.

Everything is coming together pretty nicely so far. I can only hope the other rooms come along nicely.

That entire hall way is going to be redone because the Onos barely fits in it. And it just looks stupid.
Think cheesy space restaurant names.
Edit: Yeah, if you think up a name, it might make it into my level. There are 4 food areas that need a name.
Onos has been called spacecow though :D

The anime girl shouldn't look out of place if you do a sci fi environment with a heavy chinese environment. Blade Runner is a good example of this.
