Do smaller countries closely follow the Olympics? In America no one really cares about it.

I did see some of the Russia vs. Czech game and it was awesome.

Yeah nobody really cares I think. Which is silly because summer olympics aren't any less boring. There's much less money to be made in Winter Olympics, so I guess it doesn't get the same media hype and there's all the difference (the ads you see are actually related with sports, there's no McDonald's or Coke, there's maybe Gatorade at worst)

I just love winter sports (I live in the Alps and snowboard every weekend) which is why I follow some of the events.

He enjoys playing sports and moving around himself, but finds sitting still and watching others move around silly, and *he's* the fat nerd?

That doesn't even begin to make sense. And I'm a smart guy. I can make sense of a lot of things. I'm like, a genius or something.

You're quite lucky; here on TV it's the same McDonald's and Coke commercials playing over and over again, about 70% of the time, with some car ads in between...

I think that most serious hockey teams in the Olympics are made up majoritarily (entirely?) of NHL players, and not just US/Canada.

By the way, isn't Canada better than the US in ice hockey?
  • DepotDepot The ModFather Join Date: 2002-11-09 Member: 7956Members
Theoretically yes. Canadians live and breathe hockey. Hockey is like a religion to them.

    State religion actually.

If you fail to toe the national line you get sent to the penalty box. No, the other penalty box.

Aaaactually I don't like playing sports very much, I can understand why other people do and I like some activities like swimming and ice skating and climbing things, but generally not most sports. I can extend my enjoyment of those activities to other things though and I assume other people enjoy sports for the same reason.

    <!--quoteo(post=1754549:date=Feb 22 2010, 03:30 AM:name=lolfighter)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (lolfighter @ Feb 22 2010, 03:30 AM) <a href="index.php?act=findpost&pid=1754549"><{POST_SNAPBACK}></a></div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->And yet we sit around fawning over Starcraft 2 replays.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I watch them to get an idea of the game but if they don't show anything new I don't bother, I certainly don't like 'pro' replays because they're boring, they don't use half the units and the game is over before you get to see most of it.

Really I can't watch things other than for educational value or entertainment and simply watching sports/games isn't very entertaining to me, you can add a funny commentary and that can make it quite entertaining and sometimes the game can be educational if you've never played it but want to know what it's like, but watching a game you know how to play just doesn't do it for me.

Congrats Canada hockey. A well played game with a nailbiter ending. Great heart, great hockey.

If someone had to win besides the US, I wanted it to be Canada. Then Belarus and Lativa. Followed by Mars, Venus, and Uranus. Then the right half of Europe. Then Germany. Then the left half of Europe. Then New Jersey, having been forcibly removed from the US at gunpoint and made into a separate country.

    Good game, canucks.

Oh and also, that ice hockey final was tense. And brilliantly won.

As Dara Torres (an interviewee on The Daily Show) taught us (and I quote Jon Stewart here): "So you're saying that if you get together the best-looking, most-in-shape people on earth, they will naturally try to breed?"
