And if no, then even more importantly: after i registered my key in Steam, can i ever play a non-steam version after that?

I imagine it's possible to register the key with steam but still be able to download the none steam version. Like with UT 3 a while a go, I had a boxed version but could register the key with steam and add a steam version to my account, so now I can instal the boxed or steam verion with one key.

I'm assuming the pistol was just posed like that for the screenshot since it doesn't look like that in the alpha footage. Further proof of this is the fact that there are still 10 rounds in the pistol even though a shot has clearly been fired so unless the ammo counter doesn't work yet for the pistol (it does for the mg so i would assume they both work) i wouldn't be worried.
