Help Cd Key Issue

yea well i stopped playin halflife for about a year now but since NS finally came out I decided I wanted to play it.. I foudn my halflife game of the year cd but no cdcase.. I was wondering is there anyway I could get the cd key from the cd or something.. why dont they print the damn cdkey on the cd !!

    I had this problem with another game. I emailed the company and they had me read them the number etched on the CD near the whole. They then issued me a new CD key. You can try that with Sierra or Valve and see what they say. If that doesn't work, buy a new one. You can find em for lke $20. If you don't have $20, Christmas is in 22 days.

    Though I assume there will be little they can do for you, I'd give valve/sierra a call. No way of retrieving your CD key from the CD... in fact, that's why it's there. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Email them. If you talk for more than 3 minutes, you'd might as well buy a new HL. they'll probably get back to you with a couple days max (i would imagine) <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo--> .

    Just a quick note:

    I've tried to get my CD Key replaced, but was told I had to send in the original CD, manual & sales receipt. They would then (at my expense, both ways) send me a new copy of the game. Nothing else.

    WAY cheaper to just go buy a new copy (especially since I was running off the original HL, and fat chance as to having the original receipt for THAT.)

    So, uh....unless they're not being evil when you contact them, I'd say spend the 20 bucks, and hope you can find your CD Key... <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

    If you have the patience to wait to December when Valve's Steam 2.0 is released, you'll be able to get into the public beta for free and play the majority of the good HL mods for free. This may include NS, if things work out with Valve.

    Piracy is bad. Very bad. 'Nuff said in that department.

    Piracy is bad. HL is worth buying, just to play the mods even.

    Having said that, I've bought HL twice now and both times some wanker had taken the CD key from the box at the store before i bought it. 2nd time they wouldnt take the game back, claiming I was doing it to get free CD keys, so I went on the net underground and got a list of 5000 cdkeys, about 80 percent of which work in the valve system, and of those maybe 5 percent are not in use at any given time.

    When the system doesn't work, you work around the system. And don't even ask for the list, I'm never EVER giving this list out to anyone for any reason. Buy HL like I did, and if you get screwed like I did, then find other means, but I can't help you.

    Isn't it amazing tho, how NS is so much better than 90 percent of all retail games made this year, and it was created on a budget of basically nothing. Gotta love HL mods!
