pulsar, you're free to e-mail store@unknownworlds.com anytime with your purchasing information to recieve a pre-order refund.
However, the Engine Test was designed for hardware compatibility and for fixing engine related bugs, not to give you an accurate gauge of your FPS. The engine is not yet optimized to be a reflection of what your actual in-game FPS is going to be in any way shape or form.
If you still think you need a refund, please go through with the above, but it has been stated several times by the devs that this is not a reflection of FPS in game. It will only get better with optimization the closer to release.
The technology is DX9, it just needs polish. If you run DX9 games with flawless FPS, expect NS2 at the end of the road to be in a similar vein.

I read on the feedback site some guy saying he had like 5-13 fps. Maybe this guy could post his hardware and we try to help him?
My gtx 285 doesn't hover around 58-60 fps like it does in most other games (it averages in the 30 - 50ish range @1920x1200 (it does on occasion go up to 58 fps) (where's the anti-aliasing and vsync options for this game btw? This is pretty bad if those settings aren't even on for this test) .. it depends on the room and if i'm shooting (which deducts 10 fps)). I'd say the engine test (which has nothing going on... no other teams... just you running around shooting at targets) was similar to how Crysis runs on my card. So his accusation of the engine being too slow is justified IMHO.
But it is just a test (based on years? of work). Maybe theirs something they can do to improve the performance in the future builds?

Notifying the dev team with his system specs and a bug report about low FPS is justified. That is after all the point of an engine test
Crying for a refund over it is a troll, or very naive person.
theres no point in optimising too early in the development process as it makes the code "dirty" and more difficult to deal with when fixing problems later, the problem is though very few people seem to be grasping this. as someone who has tested quite a few alphas of various other games in the past i can tell you that despite the fps issues at present it is performing very well for a early stage alpha.
I would suggest you give UWE the time they need to optimise the engine before you make a final decision on whether you want a refund or not as the engine test is far from representitive of how the finished product will perform.

Ultimately this is why the Engine Test is not a public release. We'll be seeing quite a few changes to the engine performance I'm sure over the year. Ultimately once again the engine test is more of a mapping and modding benefit than an average player. The bug finding is the extent the regular NS player will be able to go with it.
nah you want an engine test to be accessible to a wide variety of pcs, and i'd imagine that people who preorder are likely to have good pcs because they are really excited about video games.

OVER THE YEARS ?? YEARS ??? You think NS2 will be finish in YEARS ??

Lol, of course not, I expect NS2 to be released this fall, but look at NS, it was optimized many times over its lifetime. And I'm sure UWE has plans to further expand NS post-release with ideas, optimizations, expansion packs? Various things.
I know this is hard for the fanboys here to believe, but not everyone has faith in a tiny company making their first commercial game. There's no reason to call someone a troll because they want their money back.
