create new rectangle on existing rectangle
hi
dont know if i described problem right in topic. maybe a image says more
i made a new room this way
1)create ground plate
2) extrude ground to desired hight
3)extruded ceiling back to the floor
4)inside the room from perspective view i created a new rectangle as ceiling. i guess i get the exact same result with duplicating the floor move it up to the ceiling and flip y-axis.
5)created a rectangle from 1. on the image to the right corner of the room which is not on screen.
so now i should have 2 seperate rectangles. the upper one and the lower one. but as you can see on the screenshot theres is still only one rectangle with a line.
am i doing something wrong or is it due to the editor tries to be smart and guesses my intention ?

What I do instead is:
- cut the face (ctrl+x)
- paste the face (ctrl+v). This unbinds the face from any connected faces
- use the scale-tool (hit "s") to shrink the face in one direction. In your screen it would be downwards
- extrude (hit "x") the edge that you'd want to make a new face out of. In your screen it would be the upper edge
Now you have one face that's divided into two parts :P The shortcuts might be different for you or not set at all, don't remember if mine are standard or if I set them myself. Anyway, get used to shortcuts, they save you a lot of time.

Um. Can't you just extrude downwards straight away? That creates a hollow box.
