PayPal and I do not go along so well

DevilSkinDevilSkin Join Date: 2010-05-11 Member: 71720Members
Alright guys. I really want to buy NS2, been waiting for it ever since NS1. Now I've been saddened to know that the only way to buy it is through PayPal. My PayPal account has been permanently locked because of lack of verification. And so is my card with it, so I cannot register another PayPal account with the same card. So, are there any other alternatives? Will the game be in steam stores?

Do not let a fellow NS fan die in hunger. Help! D:

Eventually it will hit the Steam Store. However, Valve has a policy of only doing that about 1 month prior to the release date of the game.

So, if you want to mess around in the pre-alpha stuff now, you either have to arrange something directly (via e-mail), stomach PayPal, or suffer without.

Or pay someone else to use PayPal and buy it for you....

Argh, I kinda don't have anybody with a paypal account. Actually, not even someone who has a debit/credit card (Whom I can trust anyway). Well, I guess I'll have to wait. Any idea when's the exact date it's gonna hit steam?

    And thanks!

You don't need an account just use the credit card on the left side of the screen

Sorry should have mentioned this, but it is still the same. Anything PayPal simply does not work with my card.

If trusting strangers from an Internet forum is too much to ask try mailing store@unknownworlds.com explaining your situation.

Something tells me that if you offer to send a post office issued Money Order via regular mail along with a nice post card from where you are from, it might work.

This is probably more work for them to process manually an order but I guess that every customer counts, and the postcard adds such a nice touch ;)

    3 Easy Steps:

    1) Go to your local bank and hand them $40 cash for a gift card visa.
    2) Go home and buy NS2.
    3) Cut / Shred card and throw away.

might want to keep in mind that the whole world doesn't work the same as america, most of europe you can't get those cards

as for paypal, here in europe it actually also works with a bank account, so might try with that (not use your credit card but a normal bank account), so make a new account with your bank account.

Note that some companies REQUIRE that your bank account be backed up by a credit card. I already had one on mine when I purchased NS2, so I'm not sure if they require it. With just a bank account, you'll have to wait about 2 weeks before you actually make the purchase and get your key (unless you transfer funds over before hand).

So many people miss it because it looks like a "register to paypal" formular.
At least that's how many pages on the internet are build, you have the "sign in" option and right next to it the "create new account" option.

People are so used to it that they mistake the paypal thing for an "create new account" formular.
And yes people could just read what's written there but who does that on the internet these days :D

Just make a new account (you don't need a credit card for that) and wire-transfer 40$ (or a bit more, just to make sure) to it.
It's the "Top Up Account" tab under "My Account".

Sorry to hear about your PayPal issue. It is sad to see the monopoly they hold over online money transfers and the unregulated arbitrary lock-downs of accounts. I've dealt with a permanent account freeze in the past and I only got around it by fudging my name and using an entirely new bank account + address (yeah, I should stop using them entirely, but what other option is there that other people even use? it's like Word documents -- send someone anything other than .doc/docx and they'll be unhappy)

For now, finding someone trustworthy to do the transfer for you is the easiest thing for both you and UWE. Picking someone with a few years here and a history of valuable posts should do the trick. My avatar is a 4chan meme and my posts are a cloud of general observations, so I don't qualify :)

    Thats interesting.
Without a credit card validated on my PayPal account, I am limited to eChecks, which a lot of companies don't accept (because I think they themselves need to wait for payment, which won't work for something like Steam), unless I've actually transfered money into my paypal account from my attached Bank Account (which takes about 2 weeks).
Then, PayPal also stops you on occasion from using Instant Transfer or eCheck due to possible fraud (which they suggest you can continue with another payment method anyways, but don't tell you how to go about doing that).

For Instant Transfers, I believe funds go out of your PayPal balance and the rest is covered by PayPal while they wait for your bank account to be credited. If you don't have enough to cover it in your bank account by the time it goes through, you go into the Red and PayPal hates your face until you restore it.

Are you sure you don't have a credit card attached or have you been transfering funds ahead of time?

I forgot about the Credit "Debit" Cards... but does that mean you don't have a Bank Account on your pay pal either? Biglines post suggested that he was linked via the "Add a Bank" option, and not a Debit card.

Unfortunately, I can't get a Debit Visa/Master- Card with my current bank - at least not that I'm aware of.

Yes you do, I have one.
Its a lot simpler to get a Debit Card than a credit card for the reason that a Debit card is a Savings account and you only ever spend your own money from it, the card will only work if you have money in your savings account unless you have an arranged overdraft.
You dont need to prove you have an income for a debit card like you do a credit card where they have to know you can pay the damn thing off. I hate credit cards cause I dont like borrowing money..

Use your Debit Card or Visa Electron to add/remove funds from Paypal. I never use paypal account anyway, anything with paypal written on it can be paid via a direct card payment without registering with them even if its a donation. You just click the link to the left of the login screen. Then use whatver card you want that they can possibly accept.
I dont see the point in adding funds to paypal anymore, just does not need that feature unless you use it for like, giving someone who dont have a card some money to spend like your kids if they want some online spence.

Even I cannot pay by paypal because it has limited my account sometime ago and it is a pain to get my account to normal status. Anyway for now I would try out your suggestion. Thanks for the info. :)

Visa Debit Cards are exactly the same as a credit card except there's no credit, you use your own funds. That being said, whenever a website mentions "credit card" you may use your debit card.

the point i tried to make is that while every one in the world pretty much has a bank account, credit cards are not available to most people without a fixed income, and debit cards aren't available in some countries. I don't have either a credit or debit card, i just linked my paypal to my bank account, I never have to put any money on it, it just pays directly to the seller, and just takes the money from my account a few days later, i have no idea if it has any limits, but for normal paypal purchases (i've paid up to 60 euros) it works instantly, and u don't need a credit or debit card. Dunno if it works with all banks tho
