Ok. This is my first post in the forums. I've searched for help in the forums so as to avoid dupe question(s). Mea culpa if this has been solved. Please provide link.

I get the 'map differs from server' error all the time. Between this and looping sound/frozen video (which I won't go into here), I can hardly play this superb game at all. I'd say that 50-70% of the games I try to join give me this error. If not that, I get the 'server is enforcing consistency of blahblahblah' error. Both errors happen either when I join a server, or when it changes maps. Once I'm in, I'm in. But it's getting in (to the game) that's hard. I have purchased a brand new hard drive, re-installed my OS, re-installed Half-Life and NS, and patched everything. I have replaced IDE cables, and swapped IDE controllers on the motherboard. Please help. Thank you so much.

just go to your ns directory in /maps and delete the maps that aint working

Then the next time you join server it downloads the map from the server

Ok, just to close this out (for me).. an update. I tried everything to resolve my NS problems. Re-install. New OS. Motherboard. Video Card. Sound Card. Ide BUS. BIOS. VIA 4n1. Different power outlet. Ahaha... but the one thing I never tried.... new RAM stick.

Yep, turns out all the problems I was having were due to bad RAM in my box. Everything's under warranty, so I had it replaced and all is well.

Moral of the story? When you enter the Twilight Zone of PC behavior (where I have been for the several WEEEEKS, unfortunately fooled by the untimely release of NS), consider bad RAM as the culprit.

I have played NS for days with flawless performance with the new RAM stick.
