The truth is none of us know what the black armor will look like. If they say they do, then they are lying. If one of the devs say they know what the black armored marines look like, then they too are lying.
Welcome to the web of lies.

QUOTE

I've seen several posts in several threads now about this black armor business, and it seems like people are imagining that we are taking the current marine and dumping a bucket of black, matte paint all over them. In that case, yes, it might effect gameplay. However, that is not how it is being handled. Just because a surface's local color is black, it doesn't mean it can't still pick up and reflect a lot of light. And, don't forget, there are plenty of areas where the lighter colored cloth breaks up the armor sections, as well as the many of the light grey metallic metal paneled areas on the armor that are going to be maintained.
And then there's their large chest lights, the glowing blue lights on their backs, the glowing blue holographic visors over their faces that they are going to get, not to mention the GREEN weapons they are still going to be holding. The black armor is just going to look cool and special, not turn the marine into a super ninja.

Who needs to hide in the shadows?
I do not wonder about if it will have a N7 logo on it. That is not true.
Ok now I am making myself doubt. That is not true.
This was all true. Not depending on which part of the paradox you are at.

Blaergh- I want Tama/Scratch sitting on my shoulder - both in game and in real.
Nothing beats an artificial pet that doubles as PDA.
Or remove all doubt and sucker in a few more thousand SE preorders, which may be a good thing overall for getting NS2 delivered faster.
Anyway i'd rather want to see how badass the iron-man outfit will be, i.e. heavy (and can it fly like we all dream about :P).

where's the source of this reply? I'd like to follow that up with a question if the Heavy armor is getting the same treatment.
No, the Heavy armor is not currently planned to get the same treatment. Yes the black armor is more then just a texture swap. We think it looks pretty cool. And all will be revealed in due time.

thanks for the answer
Although it would make no sense picking up a green weapon and having it magically black, it would be pretty cool if weapons could have a green/black skin. (or even possibly a few more skins) That way if a black marine with a black gun dies green marines can use it and vise versa without magically changing color. Ontop of that the game could even support a few more skins. Hate to make a MW2 reference but this one of the cooler features of the guns in that game...
