i think(and hope) thats going along with the release im expecting a large "alpha reveal" post :D
agree it would be helpful -- for those that don't know how to do it here is how:
Go to STEAM - Log into your account Go to "Games" then "Activate a product on Steam..."
Enter your NS2 CD key
Your NS2 purchase is not linked to this STEAM account. NS2 will now act like any other STEAM game- auto update and delete and re-install. all that fun stuff.
Thank you. A post on the main page might be a good idea although I did find the same instructions on the license email when I went looking for the CD key :)

I have you tried typing it in by hand without the dashes?
I had a question, unsure if it warranted its own thread so I thought I would hijack this one for a second. I just purchased the standard NS2 package which does not get alpha access however when I activated it on steam it let me start downloading the game. Is this supposed to happen?

I figured it out if anyone else has this issue just go to http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/help and retrieve the key because the key that was originally sent in May 2009 is completely different than the one that I just got when I requested a retrieval and activated my NS2 account.

Uhh.. It's a game using Steamworks, so it will auto update, provide voice, and such through steam like Creative Assembly s games (Napoleon and Empire).
I'm personally expecting that we'll get a nice alpha-build patch in roughly 20 hours, and a post on the main site. I hope to come home from work to a 1 Download Completed message on my Steam.

Wrong. It is linked to whatever account you entered the product code in and STEAM will be used for updates. That's the whole point, making it much easier on the devs to patch up.

you are right -- I meant to type "now" good catch :)
Hmm, I have the engine test installed which is just called Natural Selection 2, since I have registered the CD Key to my Steam, will it just think I have NS2 Alpha already installed and not download the correct client?
It will automatically update to be the latest version of the game. Steam is more than capable of telling if you've got the wrong data in the game folder.

You will get an email about the download as well - well it said I would when I received my pre-order email. IT should be a simple process no doubt, just download automatically from steam and then it's party time.

Yes - what you are downloading is the engine test of NS2 (it is VERY rough and has alot of bugs) which is very far behind what the Alpha will have.
Go to STEAM - Log into your account
Go to "Games" then "Activate a product on Steam..."
Enter your NS2 CD key
