I halfway agree. Having a player sit with the use key pressed for a long time wasn't really a fun gameplay mechanic. A more fun gameplay mechanic would be to have the buildbots do all the building, but be really vulnerable to attack/interruption, so they often need a player guardian while building.
That way instead of spending a bunch of time staring point blank at a slowly moving progress bar, the players aid in structure completion by actively standing guard -- you know, playing the game.
Besides, there wasn't really anything interesting or engaging about setting up the "starter structures." Much better for all the players to be able to just run out and play as soon as the map starts.

I like how they sing as they talk, it's original and sounds well.
But I've been trying and I can't seem to figure it out but can you still build things or is it only the robots that build now? If not I'd have to say I don't like that change, you should still have the option of being able to build, I mean if I am by an empty resource node with no bots in sight, or I had to pass through some heavily guarded areas where the robots would never be able to make it to build something.. that kinda ruins a lot of strategizing and diversity.
Unless I am wrong and you can still build.. but I've stood next to a building and held e with nothing happening and I checked the key binding list and nothing said build.

Or rather, it adds more, as you need to clear a route to places before you can build there.
For everything taken away you usually find something else added.

But if your able to build along with the bots, you still need to clear a path for them AND go off on your own and build as well, more options, more strategy and more versity, that isn't game breaking.

... holding down E in NS1 for me never was that boring, I always panicked and expected to be killed as soon as I started building, especially if you build alone without backup and especially especially (lol :P) if you builded a ninja PG on your own.
Yeah, it was a good thrill and hoping no-one passing by heard you building. Or backing a fellow marine while they build. Spawn building was quick anyway with multiple builders, so it wasn't boring.

It also gave you the option to check out the minimap for some longer time to get a feel for what's going on...
Having only the build bot build stuff basicly takes more thinkes away than it adds, i really don't like it. Also building the stuff yourself gave the game at least some kind of sandbox feeling (even tho you where not really in control about what's beeing build). With building gone it just removes another aspect of what made NS stick out compared to other FPS games, more phewphew less "other things".
Wheter you liked building or not, it had been a task that broke some of the FPS gameplay that can get pretty annoying at times. Sometimes it's good to have such an pace-breaker in the game so the player at least has the illusion of doing different things instead of just running around shooting stuff..

Exactly, it was nerve wrecking trying to build something hoping they don't hear you and when you got it up, you felt a sense of accomplishment. The "other things" is really what made NS stand out, now don't get me wrong I really enjoy and like the bots, but I don't see why you can't do both? I mean can't gorges heal buildings to make them grow faster, yet marines can't build anything? Also with gorges running around this means aliens will dominate the map more easily, gaining more control since they have both a com, and players to build while marines only have weak ass bots that die in 2 seconds.

ahhaahha yeah!
Side Note: The Bot from Borderlands was horrible, I just wanted to kill it so badly but the game wont let you. What a sick joke.
I smirked :P
