Am I the only one with this sound issue?

Crazy sound on server join + complete sound failure after
***YES I HAVE ADDED THIS TO GETSATISFACTION***

***GET SATISFACTION LINK HERE: http://getsatisfaction.com/unknownworlds/t...y_breaks_in_ns2 ***

I haven't seen a single person with this problem yet, so I wanted to see if I could reach out to a larger audience here and see if I can find anyone else who has this issue. My title screen sounds work fine. The in-game sounds worked fine for the engine test. Now, when I play alpha, I load up, title screen is fine, then when I join a server it makes this BLARING sound that nearly explodes my headphones, and then no sound works on my entire computer (including NS2) until I close NS2.

For your enjoyment, I have uploaded a recording of exactly what I experience. You can hear my level of volume that I have the game set up, and then I'm joining the server so there's a period of silence, and then the massive two or three fold increase in decibel level as I load in the map, and then silence.

This happens every time. I have reinstalled the game. I have verified file integrity.

If you haven't, update your sound drivers. These will probably be bundled with your chipset drivers.

Downloading a driver for it now, although I can't remember whether or not I've done this before. Will report back if it helps.

I had this issue once in game as well. Lost all my sound, and slowly that annoying sound crept up on me. Eventually game sound came back to normal. I'm pretty sure my drivers are up to date. I should check mine soon sometime as well.

    This same sound hit you?

    Interesting

I'll check back in in about 10 minutes with the verdict on my new drivers

that is a crazy sound, it doesn't quite sound like any standard phenomenon. It starts off as feedback but it isn't by the end. Was the recorded through the output jack? You sure you don't have your mic unmuted in the windows mixer or something like that?

Naw man. I have my sound set up the same way I always do. I've played hundreds of games with this setup. Most recently L4D2, TF2, FF14, Alien Swarm. Lots of others in the past with the same config as well.

This sound happens at the same exact point every time, after authenticating and before I have control of my character. It only happens in NS2. And it's the same EXACT sound every time. It's not like mic feedback being looped back into itself like you might imagine. It's a straight sound file being played in my headphones, that's it.

Tried downloading new drivers but the driver site is having fun dropping my connection every 2 minutes, so I have been unable.

I don't have any crazy sound like you when I join or make a server. But I do share your problem of having no sound whatsoever after getting in game.

Updating my sound drivers fixed it.
