Hydra Model Yes/No?

I wont lie there is something about the new oc design (hydras) that I thoroughly dislike. I just don't believe the whole three tentacle type model is very appealing and a far better looking one could be made.

What are others thoughts on the model?

However, the ability to build them on walls is great as is dynamic infestation. I love ns this is just my two cents worth on making it better. Keep up the good stuff =)

    Better than the old OC's, by far. Harder to WoL for a start.

    The new hydra is more expressive than the NS1 OC at least. I have no problems with it.

    I love NS and I'm going to have to agree with you. The new models looks worse I'm referring to structures. In fact a lot of the models look worse. Even though they have an amazing polygon count and they look super polished. Somethings just don't look right.

    Its going to be a No for me.

    I like how the Hydra looks, though I will admit it doesn't have as much "presence" as the OC.

    The Hydra is dainty with its tentacles, while the OC was one big mass of stuff.

    New model looks bad imo.

    It's far too thin and doesn't look very dangerous at all. Looks more like one of those three-pronged candles. If a marine equivalent of an OC was done, it'd be three thin metal prongs with tiny pea shooters on the ends.

    It should look a bit more menacing at least, rather than a thin anorexic plant. The NS1 was certainly in the former category:

    <img src="http://ns2wiki.com/images/thumb/6/6b/Offencechambertrans.png/75px-Offencechambertrans.png" border="0" class="linked-image" />

    Much more "menacing" and "alien" compared to this:

    <img src="http://www.unknownworlds.com/cache/thumbnails/Hydra_Render_177x200.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

    Which more or less reminds me exactly of this:

    <img src="http://www.theflowerpot.com/images/product/Candle-939.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

    I don't know if people have different experiences with candles or something, but that's exactly what I think of when I see Hydras in the NS2 Alpha. A candle stand that's attacking me. I really hope they change the design, as it just looks silly to me.

    Perhaps the attacking animation could be made much more energetic Instead of just bobbing around, the heads could flail wildly towards that target as if trying to unroot itself to physically touch the enemy, while releasing spikes towards the target. I'm thinking something like this: (graphic)

    One of the reasons, why I play the Gorge so often, is because the Hydras look awesome (the other is because I can belly slide, but thats a different story :P).

    It's also the only building with a Build animation so far, which I Like aswell.

    I really like how hydras can be built on walls and ceilings that is a HUGE improvement and good innovation.

    Yea the design isn't ideal...it looks like an ugly dragon fruit tree
    <img src="http://www.sundayobserver.lk/2007/12/02/z_p95-let0.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

    If it was a bit bigger (why not let it keep growing a bit or be grown further by the gorges?) and fiercer looking, then I'd be a fan.

    i can agree they might look pathetic by themselves, but I do love the look of masses of them together on walls and stuff like that, I think the hydras are more of a "strength in numbers" type of unit. maybe they can be cheap to plant and have somewhat costly upgrades that make them look more dangerous?

    I like em, they look good in clusters and will probably look a lot nicer when the DI is in.

    The problem is that they look like they should be much weaker than the original. Which is fine if you make them cheaper too.

    Still gonna miss the red spiky ball though.

    I like the old one and the new model, but the new one look more "natural"

    You cant WoL with a Hydra. That makes it 100% better than the old OC.

    I like the new Hydra, I think it just needs to be scaled up a little bit, looks a bit too small (weak) than it actually is.

    They are much weaker, they die in one clip.

    I don't even know if they cost money, you're supposed to drop lots of them.

    I think they look kind of OK, I just don't like the idle animation/movement very much.

    I also think it might be a little to small. There should also be more space between hydras; these clustered up masses of hydras don't look that sweet imho.

    But once DI is in, a little spread around the hydra might already be enough to make it look less out of place.

    I think once dynamic infestation comes out most of the alien structures will fit in more, for example the eggs look so completely random right now but once the dynamic infestation goes up hopefully they'll blend in, same goes for the Hydras, hopefully they will be slightly sized up to they do look a little small.

    Two things I would like added to hydras
    1: Help spread infestation slowly *once hydras are placed they infestation slowly starts growing around them*
    2: Have the heads be able to recede into a camouflaged thing, so say the Hydra was in active for a while it would go into a dormant state until it senses a nearby enemy and the heads pop out and start attacking, it would be a nice and cool way to surprise marines heading into an infested area.

    would be menacing,
    But too small and easy to kill

    My only problem with the Hydra is that it doesn't really stand out that much. With Dynamic Infestation in, I think the problem will become larger. I think the tips of the tentacles need to be larger, or more pronounced or something. It really doesn't seem like it would actually do anything other than cause you mild pain and disconfort as if being hit by a er... porcupines tail?
