Prediction seems a bit off. . .

I held off a few days from posting because I figured that there would be a flood of new topics after alpha released. . .
I've read a few threads discussing the lag and poor fps, but I think we need to be a little more specific
I did some tests with "Random Guy" on a server that neither of us were local to and judging from how long it would take for weapons to register I would say that the ping was somewhere between 350 and 500
The thing is that even with relatively stable ping it seem to be an impossible task to hit each other while we were moving around.
Even the modest downward angle was enough to make it so you would miss a skulk running straight at you
The only time I would land blows was when the guy would run straight at me and I was shooting from a crouched position. . .
The guy was never able to hit me once either since I would never stop moving
At one point I was running around a resource node in a constant circle flailing with my switchaxe. . .
The skulk continuously chased me around and didn't kill me before the node went down. . .
There is definitively something wrong
My guess is the prediction, but it might be something more complex like the lag causing attacks to happen not only a 1/2 second later, but also from wherever you were standing a 1/2 second ago.
The lag literally making it 100% impossible for the skulk to ever land a hit on a moving marine.
Am I just crazy or have others experienced this?

Also does anyone know if the hit box models will be.. boxes again, like for example the resource towers, can you shoot between the empty spaces in the legs? Because as of now in the alpha I can't and I've tried, maybe it's a detection problem or the boxes are just.. big squares again.

Hit detection is bugged. But if they have ragdolling available, then each limb has its own collision box. That's how ragdolling works.
Awesome, that's what I wanted to hear. But what about thing's like the RT that don't have a ragdoll, one of the most frustrating things about NS is a skulk biting the RT and you can clearly see him through the legs yet couldn't shoot him.
No way of knowing without testing, but I'm pretty sure collision is only bugged for moving things because of prediction right now. Why don't you go test it out? On something standing still, collision should be fairly accurate.
Interesting. . .
Thanks for the info

Wow that's hillarious. . .
I think that's the only post in months that I skimmed over instead actually reading fully
The sad part is I'm not alone. . .
I spoke with a lot of people in game about these issues and most of them felt it was unplayable and probably won't be back till beta =/

Well of course it's annoying but it doesn't stop me from playing, I understand it's alpha and they will fix it soon, and the point of alpha isn't for us to rack up kills or play a 100% functional game, hence why it's alpha we are doing this to HELP and give our opinions and find bugs for them to squash so when this game is released it is the best it can be, with as many bugs/glitches removed as possible.
I have tested it, since you can't tell where your bullets are hitting due to the bullet sparks rarely ever even show up, I had a skulk under the legs standing their shooting and I unloaded a pistol clip and some lmg rounds into him and he didn't die and eventually ran away, happened twice, but one time with not as many rounds shot, either way they didn't die.
Now I know that's not the best method of testing, and this is why I am asking because I'm not sure, just from what I've seen so far it seems to be this way.

It's not even supposed to be "playable" yet.. it's Alpha after all. All it is atm is a big bug hunt, as long as you realize that everything else falls into place.
Ya, that is the sad part. Unfortunately.
