show some love
He's so damn cute!
Good:
+"Scared" defense mode
+Gorge taunt that automatically makes you think he's yelling "heeelllppp meeeeeee" as it echoes down the nearby halls.
+Belly slide (his toungue hangs out!)
+His squishy feet sounds
Bad:
- I miss building resource towers :`(
- His chambers should start as a glowie pile of puke like in the concept, then gradually grow into the full plant (probably be added much later in development)

He is cute.
I second the puke idea. Followed by terminator music as the cute little building spawns. Muahahaha.
I was too busy staring to shoot.
Bellysliding is a very odd mechanic for a marine to experience.
I hope they implement it in future releases!
+1
I was kind of expecting the belly-slide only to be possible if the player does a spit or something in front of him, just seems to make sense to me. It will also provide a bit of skill to use the ability if that were in.
They get spit and heal spray on their primary weapon, and they also get a defensive and fast movement ability at all times. Hydras also don't need building, you just drop them all and let them grow.
So they're much more offensive/mobile than before. They also are very likely to get more abilities.

I guess it's just holding down shift? (can't play the game myself on this craptop of mine but I've seen the game).

Yep, shift.
It gives you a speed boost and I think it might work better down hills, but I'm not sure. You go a long way anyway you just can't turn.

Now that is a good idea..
The plan eventually is that you can only belly slide down stairs and inclines, and only on straight sections if there is infestation on the floor. Infestation may also increase the speed. There has also been some talk of the gorge possibly getting the ability to spread small amounts of DI himself, so possibly that could get chained to the belly slide, as well, and have him be able to lay down infestation in front of him as he's sliding.

I hope gorges can make infestation webs.
Also, I hope the spit model isn't final. It looks very cartoony to me (the model of the spit as it flies through the air). The NS1 model looks better IMHO.

You need to allow the gorge to spread the infestation just because I want to mess these maps up.
--Cory

Haha, oh man I just laughed so bad at that. So he's a tongue-at-the-side-of-mouth little fatty that spreads infestation and tentacles, when I can imagine the only thing he ever wanted was a thrill?
Also it's even more fun that belly-slide might actually be implemented as it looks now; it's such a whacky idea to begin with!

This is great news. I think that will be a really fun mechanic when you are trying to escape from marines. I hope it works similarly to how "skiing" worked in the Tribes game. Momentum would build up depending on the angle and length of the decline.
I agree the gorge being the main spreader of infestation would be a great addition, making him a really vital support role.
That'd be pretty sweet. Gorges lay the way for other aliens to attack a marine stronghold (assuming DI gives a speed boost).

If you must skip through, the bit I'm talking about starts at around 1.20
No, the spit effect isn't final. When it comes to the particle effects you can pretty much assume none of them are final at the moment, as we've really only just begun working on the effects, and many are still just stand in for the moment.

Cory if the gorge makes his own DI for sliding can we call him a slug machine?
Still an alpha though.

Well, if you notice, the alpha has all the upgrade chambers in the UI for the alien commander, so I'd assume not. It would be nice if the gorge could drop one more type of structure. The crag would make the most sense, but the AC would have to be the one to upgrade it and make use of its special abilities once placed.

I am actually loving the gorges new role atm, while I do really miss building the rts, I really hope I will still be able to build a defence chamber equivalent in the game when more chambers are implemented. My Hydras are pretty weak and the only way to currently ensure they are at least effective in deterring a marine is the build them in big numbers. I am not sure if building massive numbers of oc's was the idea, but I think a limit of some kind may be necessary so players don't fill an entire room with a carpet of them.
I do love belly slide and the little growl the gorge makes when you press z ^_^ gorge is so much fun now :D I look forward to when we can play the finished product and create tactical defence points.

I am very glad to hear this, and the DI spreading ability sounds like it would be great.. can't really tell since it's not in the game for us yet.
