[Help!] Having Sound Errors

Hello all,

Been trying to play (we know how that goes lately heh) and I'm having major sound issues. First off, the console is littered with events/sounds that aren't playing, such as all forms of footsteps, for example.

Also, oddly enough, I seem to be able to hear sounds no matter where I am on the map. I can be near a skulk and hear it chomping, then run to the other side of the map and still hear it, or if our base is being gassed, I can hear it while I'm in the hive.

Please help! And I'm truly hoping a full reinstall isn't the only answer :-/

Thanks.

You can always verify the file integrity to make sure no files have been corrupted during download. Also don't forget to make sure you don't alt-tab since that seems to be a problem a number of people are having as of late. Finally, if worse comes to worst, you may have to do a full reinstall, since it seems like a number of people have been having problems getting a complete download what with steam being a pain in the tuckus when it comes to giving us exactly what we need. If you know anyone else with NS2 you could always ask them to copy over the audio files if your console is saying that you're missing them.

Oh, and while I'm at it since I'm typing things as the answers come to me, make sure you check getsatisfaction to see if other people are having similar issues, to make sure that it is or is not an alpha bug, since if it is there's nothing you can do about it and so should at least feel secure in the fact that there's nothing wrong on your end. Toodles.

And how would I verify file integrity?

To verify file integrity, go into steam, go into your games section, right click natural selection 2, go to properties, local files tab, Verify integrity of game cache. I know there were steam issues, don't know if they were resolved, but if any missing files are found, it will download them *usually.* Oddly, this is the same way to delete your local game cache so be careful what you click away at.

The missing sounds and sounds hearable all over the map is happening for everyone I think.

The missing sound messages are because the game code references the sounds (play footstep when animation event happens), but they haven't been distributed as part of the alpha. This isn't really a problem, it just spams the console with lots of text. I've reinstalled the whole package a few times so it's not a corrupted or incomplete install.

The other main sound bug is looping sounds continuing to play after the event that fired them is over. Sometimes I run toward sounds of a battle in progress, to find the area is empty and the assault rifle and skulk chomp sounds are just looping from 5 minutes ago when some dudes fought there. An issue with the "stop sound" events not being sent over the network, I'd guess.

On Tram map there is one area (near the dbl res spot) that seems to pick up every player made sound (guns, walking, biting etc) and plays them loudly. The 1st few times I ran by it I expected to see a skulk biting the RT on the other side, but nothing was around but me, not even a RT.

But yes, the reason above is why you get the wall of text in the console.
