It will be "when it's done". UWE is more concerned about making an awesome game than hitting a specific deadline at this point. There's no telling really. This will come down to how long it takes to get all of the content in and bug fixes / balance changes.
i'd say q1 2011 optimistically, q2 realistically. it would be nice to have beta release on halloween...still got a long ways to go before we get there though.

I went back and listened to it again, and then I realised what he meant was, "a couple of months <b>(before 1.0)</b>". He said the flamethrower would be in "in a month or two" - and that's clearly Alpha status; Beta status means it's feature-complete, and they're ironing out the bugs (not to mention promoting pre-orders via their site). He said the current Alpha is 30% of the game (in terms of features, I'm guessing).
So their schedule goes something like this... - Alpha (currently at 30%); roughly weekly updates: ironing out bugs, gradually including features (models, maps, etc.) [unknown amount of time; my guess: a year and a half] - Beta (feature complete); some sort of announcement/campaign to boost pre-orders and sales prior to release, ironing out last batch of bugs prior to release. [two months] - 1.0 : Steam Store, addition of a map or two in celebration... [working exclusively on NS2 for a year?] ~ More updates to NS2... [the future, something new in the works? but NS2 still being supported and updated.]

Imo, no idea, when it gets here.
Well, I expect in the next 3 or 4 months (maybe) a playable beta and 1.0 hits steam march/april next year.
Could someone point out the exact source for this?
