I'm not sure if it was mentioned yet, but the full NS2 Alpha is just shy of 2GB (around 1.8). So those, like me, who have a limited quota be careful as a shaped/cruised net game playing NS2 plus the connection issues = hell.

At this point in time while some bugs may be recoverable by performing software voodoo you can quite easily assume that if something is not working correctly that UWE are trying to fix it. I would advise looking <a href="http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/forums/index.php?showtopic=110350" target="_blank">here</a> and following my instructions. If your bug seems unique, make a new GetSatisfaction thread.

It's a cool little network they've got set up to report bugs and other issues. I'd post there and provide as much information about the hardware you're running and the issues you're having. What causes the error? What information does the debug provide, if it gives you a preview of it? Little things like that will help them find problematic code.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Aren't we suppose to simply send off the debug report and let them figure it out?
Just a question as I am unsure where our focus should be at this point, I have only ever beta tested, never alpha so the expectations would probably differ.
Currently in Alpha, what is the primary focus? only stability and performance? Or are you also looking for comments about balance and bugs in the game?
Currently I can find things that <b>may</b> need fixing, but these are more game related fixes and possibly do not need addressing yet?
Kyliegirl, I believe they will appreciate any and all intelligible feedback. It's alpha and thus wouldn't hurt to mention w/e you are thinking.
Also, I have found that if you managed to set the console up, if your connection hangs a lot (like it is for me), then open console (default ~ on QWERTY keyboard) then type quit.

Thanks, but it still doesent work :( I have an odd keyboard layout, so i assigned console to "Q" just to make sure it would work, but its still no go. I even marked the xml as read-only, because I noticed it was changed back to the default assignment,<i> "Grave"(?)</i> after I tried changing it the first time.
By the way, why does it say "Grave" in the line <i><Toggleconsole>Grave</ToggleConsole></i> in the .xml? I expected a "|".

Well, nice to see it being released for those, that prepurchased it, however I have on Point, where I strictly disagree with You, Flayra: "NS1 had a long life and we expect NS2 to do the same."
HAD? It's still being played, and I personally like to visit the [KcK]-Server quite a lot.
Since I don't own a Cradit-Card, I'm not that able to buy it, but I'm Waiting for a Retail-Release in Germany, having a CD/DVD-Key in it, that I may register in Steam.(Hell, I'd even Happy, if this Game would get released as Cards-only, that you can enter in Steam to Download&Install it. I've never used the HL2&HL2Ep1-DVD's to install those, but the Keys to register&play them).
Unlike other Developers, that sometimes rush their Games out to the Public, Games that are coming mainly from Modders tend to get a great amount of development, improving the ma lot even after the Release(thinking about AlienSwarm and it's nearly daily Updates, OK, that's a little overdoing, but it's the Thought of enhancing a Game over a long time, making it better and better). While some Stupid Big-Studios releases a Game, and never do something about it's horrible Amount of Bugs&Problems(Especially those Games, that get released on Consoles as well).
It's just that (in my Opinion) everyone that's playing NaturalSelection, and those Lucky-Ones, that play the Alpha, are really enjoying what you deliver, whether you're a Marine that get eaten every few Minutes( or Seconds, if you're unlucky) or a Kharaa, devouring that Marine as an Onos.
I originally got myself HalfLife1 for the EarthSpecialForces-Mod(Alpha), but when I saw NaturalSelection, my attention dropped from that, and now, the only Reason why I keep HL1 installed, is NaturalSelection! - And I'm still having fun playing a Marine-Soldier.
BetaSword you have a point, but hey, they don't care, they did it for free back in the day but now in their 30ish the money rules their face you know, and that's ok. Playing the alpha you get early access to huge amount of console errors and industrial amounts of grief thanks to the changes in the game you felt in love with. The new features include huge poly models, ridiculously large amounts of stupid geometry overloading an uberlaggy engine at 3 fps in a decent rig, while the netcode is so trashed that keeps spamming an endless string of useless crap; in the left hand some crazy features are going to end cutted off silently e.g. the first one showed by our hero (dynamic infestation) with its massive cpu usage in order to avoid even more complaints about performance and a large etcetera. So yeah, you are missing a lot.
Seems like this became just another explendable average title good for a rent while the NS1 community is so dead that NS only takes disk space; pretty sure its life will be short. Since I realized you had to install manually Physx to avoid model errors messages I just uninstalled both games. For the good. Sure UWE eventually will come with something playable in, say, 2012 but barely worthy of your time; there will be stereoscopic titles waiting for you to play a similar scenaria; sure, with purchasing NS2 you supported UWE and thank them for NS1 dev great game, perhaps the only one, and that was cool, now this game is almost as bad as SC II. Just move on people.

now the best version EVER , v1.2 was EPIC... I really lost it on v 2.X and 3.X got better but don't know .. feel something is missing. I guess I will buy ns2 as its epic this game... especially 45 minute long ones, everyone knows the game, and not a lot of noob whining (as in at noobs nor by noobs). those were the days...
Although.. pleaseee consider the hive control, dynamics again, as it was in 1.2 contra later. TO keep holding the final hive, or losing one when gaining one was so epic.. longest battle i commed, was 2 hrs.. longest I pld 45-1.5 hours. Normal time : 15-25 mins.
Anyway, enjoy the alpha and have a giggle at the many shortcomings still but there is nothing which will teach you the game more than playing it from it's infancy! I envy ya!

How do I assign it to a different button?
Nope, and the | key is completely disabled, i cant even use it in the chat, I need to re-assign it.
Is there an editable config file or equivalent in the ns2 folder somewhere? I cant find any.
C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Natural Selection 2\options.xml
rofl. maybe this time he can make an arbitrary connection between uw closing special preorder prices to national socialist germany.
anyway, i can't wait for the netcode in alpha to be stable- all the glitches will be so much more fun when i dont get a migraine checking them out!
