Destroy the Team Fortress 2 Golden Wrenches for Charity

Hope the mods don't get bent out of shape for advertising this. I think it's pretty relevant for all gamers though.

<a href="http://www.toptiertactics.com/golden-charity/" target="_blank">http://www.toptiertactics.com/golden-charity/</a>

Well, this is something neat. Even Valve is promoting this now. I figure I'd drop this here and see how many people I can convince to donate what they can afford. All proceeds are going to <a href="http://www.childsplaycharity.org/" target="_blank">"Child's Play"</a>. The event is going down on or about the 31st of August. Child's Play is a really good cause and it's good to see gamers doing something really positive. We tend to get a bad rap for being lazy and unmotivated, but here's a chance for those of us who can afford it to help out. Please pass this info on to other places you hang out at. Even if you can't afford to help you can help spread the word.

Nah, UWE has a soft spot for anything <a href="http://www.childsplaycharity.org/" target="_blank">Child's Play</a> related.

And yes, it's awesome that they're doing this; hopefully they'll get even more donations, and more people coming forward to destroy their wrenches for a good cause.

I saw this a while ago. If you only skim the article you may overlook <a href="http://www.toptiertactics.com/2010/07/goldengate-the-engineer-update-scandal/" target="_blank">this link,</a> which you should read.

By the way, no deluge of people saying "I'd totally destroy my golden wrench for charity if I had one" yet? Well, allow me to be the first then. I'd totally destroy my golden wrench for charity if I had one.

Aaah, 'item' high jinks: one of the main reasons I don't play TF2 any more. lolf's article was a good'un, though.

It's not like the items make the game less fun (unless you don't like some of them specifically for gameplay reasons).

Actually, its exactly like that. Every few months I come back to TF2 to satisfy the backstab cravings, only to uninstall it sometime later because of how much the game play has been ruined.

    You need a bigger harddrive <img src="http://members.home.nl/m.borgman/ns-forum/smileys/rolleyes.gif" border="0" class="linked-image" />

Or does the anger just run that deep in this case <img src="http://members.home.nl/m.borgman/ns-forum/smileys/dancing-banana.gif" border="0" class="linked-image" />

I have plenty of HD, but uninstalling it keeps me from deciding to play it when I'm bored and then getting really frustrated by how unfun the games are nowadays.

Of course, without something to replace it I eventually get bored enough to reinstall it and the cycle is repeated.

The general stats remain pretty consistent throughout updates, balance doesn't stray too much unless you were considering it broken to begin with. Most of the items that stray from their original counterpart (sandviches, buff banners, etc) don't even show up very often. The ones that don't mostly affect your own play style rather than your potential effectiveness (backburner encourages flanking, direct hit encourages less spamming, etc).

I'd disagree in the case of the Spy. Which watch you're wearing completely changes how you play. Cloak and Dagger lets you hide out and provide intel to your team, or endlessly harass an Engi's setup. Dead Ringer is most useful if you disguise as your own team.. people think they got the 'last shot' on someone low on health, providing endless backstab possibilities. The default... I never really use.

The default is for fast stab action. I use it on king of the hill maps a lot as you can decloak, stab, fill your meter with their dropped weapon, cloak, rinse, repeat.

Yeah it's basically a slower dead ringer with less noise as well... But you are able to receive damage when cloaked...

It also isn't ###### cheap as hell, so you'll actually be able to look in the mirror without maiming your soul after using it.

Yeah, I suck when I try that. Much prefer backstabbing the same Sniper over and over again until they change classes, hanging around in the spots no one thinks to check during re-spawns with the Cloak and Dagger. ****ing snipers deserve it though. Three on a team, two at the bottom of the scoreboard (just as an objective ranking of 'am I being useless', it serves most times other than as Engineer)... it really is for the best. Even if they go Pyro. Why yes I <i>am</i> taking out the rage I feel at the idiots on my own team, who I would happily backstab repeatedly if friendly fire was turned on.

    ****ing snipers.

Whenever I play sniper I go out on the BF and autoaim headshot people with the bow. That thing is so easy to use it's almost criminal <img src="http://members.home.nl/m.borgman/ns-forum/smileys/biggrin.gif" border="0" class="linked-image" />
