yes. I just did a quick search for all non-empty NS servers, and i've got 21 servers, 11 of which have at least 10 players (there are 4 or 5 with 28+ players)
Sorry to dissappoint you but there is only 2 servers with people constantly on (EU), you can find a server anytime but you may have to cross border to do so. US have couple too.
Well there are still enough servers for the ns experience, it's worth ten bucks. But expect to be lost and dominated at first, as most of the still active players are highly experienced :D

Edit: Actually, I just realised I do own Half-Life. I've just never played it.
I just want to add; Stay away from co servers until you get a feel for how the weapons work in NS. There are admins who happily ban people for dying as it helps the enemy team get stronger.

I'd just watch<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7J80KD4BG7M" target="_blank"> Freeman's Mind</a> instead. Its basically just the gameplay with a hilarious internal monologue.
You laugh but part of my games course was a module on games history which required me to play the original prince of persia, commander keen, duke nukem and stuff like that.
I kinda stopped paying attention when we reached age of empires 2 because I really like age of empires 2 and just played that for the rest of the term.
Well you have to play Portal in <a href="http://www.thekartel.com/soullesswarrior/blog/2010/09/06/college_professor_becomes_the_coolest_teacher_ever_by_making_portal_required_learning" target="_blank">this college</a>
You should definatly get HL, its a really nice classic (SP is cool but Deathmatch and Multiplayer is really awesome for a LAN, it's a really fast paced, old UT style game) Day of Defeat is a mod I enjoyed for a very long time, imho it beats all the Medal of Honor crap by lengths. Counter Strike is ofcourse an all time classic, but can be frustrating :) I guess the same goes for NS so you might spoil your hopes for NS2 by getting fed up with NS1. Sven Co-op is also a mod I really loved (it's basically Half Life as a Coop game), I also played a mod called "The Specialists" it's a Matrix Combat Style Mod for Half Life with a lot of cool moves and a lot of fun, but it's not that easy to master.
Anyway 10 bucks is fine as a ticket to enter the huge world that is Half-Life and it's Mods.
I'm not sure what you said, but um, yeah. I did have some fun with CS:S though. Particularly later on with the zombie (headshots only) custom servers. DoD:S was just inferior in every way except graphically, though.

ByFly only co maps - 10 - 20 most of the time
Veteran server - 5 - 15
so you got 3 good servers with a normal ping 20 - 80 (uk)

No really, you guys have to be joking :(

I lold.
Half-life is so old now that some of the people on this forum were not even born when it was released.

Respect.
Stop arguing, just get it and play!
