Where can I go to get a refund?

TardassTardass Join Date: 2010-10-14 Member: 74444Members
Considering I bought the SE, so I could use the Alpha, and I'm unable to do so, I want a refund.

I've reinstalled countless times, verified my SE code and armor code at least 5 times, and I've tried every other fix I read about on the forums, and even made a previous post about this. I really just want my money back.

i might be wrong, but i think now that they are on steam they can't give you are refund anymore, but i might be wrong.

    So lets see:

you activated both keys, the ns2 and the black armor key on steam
    you installed ns2 on steam
you launched ns2 and not launchpad

can you tell us at what step the problem occured?

And what are your computer specifications, which are important. Include motherboard, cpu, video card, memory, hdd.

If you are using an ATI video card, then you must install Physics which is found under the ns2 folder. If you use an nVidia card, install the latest driver which comes with Physics on it's latest build.
If you use an Intel video card, the go and buy a modern nVidia or ATI video card.

Not arguing the source of his game errors, he has a valid question.

Can a dev please post the correct method to ask for a refund (cancel pre-order).
How is a refund made for purchases made with credit cards? Since the game is on Steam can a refund be made in the form of steam wallet credit?

PS: Tardass, you might get more answers if you email store@unknownworlds.com

i don't agree with his argument.
UWE held up their part of the deal - a working ns2 alpha for the $40 SE preorder.
it works for countless people including me, so we all know they delivered.

as for OP:s perticular case, something ON HIS SIDE is preventing the alpha from working.
how can UWE be held responsible for that?

i think you need to make a clean format, make sure you have good AV & FW from start. make sure you have modern hardware (to begin with). then install all the relevant drivers and software.
if that doesn't work, i have no idea what will. - buy new comp.

No one's arguing that UWE is responsible for his game not working. I agree with you - heck, I consider the alpha "unplayable" as of 152, but I still agree with you. However, if UWE is still allowing refunds, it's well within his rights to ask about it.
Dunno if it'll work if he's already registered it with Steam, though.

First off, this is an alpha and it may run slowly or not at all right now. Sadly that is the point of alpha and giving reports on the getsatisfaction site with all your info is the best thing you can do. This way the team can fix the problems. If the information is just buried in a forum post, it will likely be missed. The idea is to get the game running for everyone that bought it but it may take time to get to that point :)

As for a refund, if you feel you need one still, send an email to store@unknownworlds.com and we will take each one on a case by case basis. With the move to Steam, we can not guaruntee a refund anymore.

Your other thread had a lack of information about the issue. Weather or not you realize this, you paid to help test alpha and help fund the development of the game.

You can greatly assist in this process by working with the community to troubleshoot why your game is not running and fix it. Thus helping people in the future.

Well the error occured right after I clicked on "play NS2" instead of "Run launchpad" or w/e the exact options are. It simply told me that the Alpha is only available to people who have pre-ordered the SE. So my first thought was it just didn't work, so I re-entered both keys, several times, reinstalled, restarted steam, etc.. I did that countless times in several different combinations. Also, I tried it on 2 of my friends computers, they both are able to run the game (not without bugs obviously), but not able to run the game when logged onto my account.

Sooooo... yea, and weezl, it would be completely different if I had simply pre-ordered the game, because when I pre-ordered Metroid M for example, my pre-order was simply assuring me a copy on release, however, if I had paid extra for a SE box, and didn't get it, I would want my money back. I paid extra for things that I am not getting, which I consider the Alpha, as well as the black armor 2 things I'm not getting at the moment.

Alright, so your purchase/account is messed up in some way. This will be something I'm sure UWE can figure out with VALVe.

Sounds like something a quick e-mail can help fix. Bug them at store@unknownworlds.com to check on your keys.

This isn't technically a preorder the way Steam sees it, because the alpha is already out and thus the alpha key has already been used to acquire a "game" on Steam. I would assume.

This is what I was thinking. The guy already used his key and installed the game. Even a store selling a boxed game wouldn't take a PC game back after that point.

Seems dumb to demand a refund just because an unfinished games doesn't work on a specific computer.
It's not like the alpha is all that enjoyable with the current build anyway.

You say you didn't get the black armor? Are you sure you pre-ordered the SE and not just the regular pre-order?

Right click on Natural Selection 2 in your Steam Game Library - Select the "View Downloadable Content" option.
What is listed in the pop-up?

You need to have a listing of "Natural Selection - Black Armor" for the current Alpha to work. This means you should have purchased the more expensive pre-order option. This option was only available up until a couple of months ago, or so. Any pre-orders now are only for the Beta of Natural Selection 2 which won't be released for awhile.

He says he's validated his keys 5 times, how does he have broken keys? Not once did he say they weren't working, only that the game isn't working.

If the code has been used already. To check this see the Natural Selection 2 properties window in the steam games library, to see if you actually have "Natural Selection 2 - Black Armor" on the DLC tab...

If you have that there, I'm not sure if a refund trough steam is possible at all...

It sounds like you may have missed a step. I recall that between the engine test release and the alpha release there was another process that involved inputting the 'engine test' key to receive a 'alpha' key. After looking through my email, I have found 3 different keys related to NS2. One is the original key used to access the engine test. There is also a Special Edition key and a black armor key.

From the sound of the error message you are getting, it might be that you haven't used the proper Special edition key to gain access to the alpha. That or you have a weird borked key problem.

To play devil's advocate, you pre-ordered a game to access Alpha. If the game doesn't run well (or at all) during these testing phases, tough ###### mate.

His issue seems to be with authentication, not with running the game itself...THAT part should work without problems
