Special Edition Key

A Request
Hello NS Community,

Just a simple request:

Does anyone have an extra special edition key, or know someone who has yet to use theirs?
A long shot I know, but if anyone does have an extra special edition key:

please message me and we can discuss pricing, as I would like to purchase it from you.
You can name your price, or, we can discuss what is best.

I was living under a rock, where NS was out of line-of-sight. Yes, for well over a year or two.
Any information is appreciated.

I don't think something like that would really be allowed...

You are more than welcome to try and get one. Just a warning, they can only be tied to one account so be wary of scams.

if anyone here (preferably a reputable member) has a spare special edition key, I'd be interested in purchasing a key for a friend of mine. Possibly in exchange for a comparable valued steam game through gift exchange?

Hahaha, thank you for the offer, but 500€ is a bit over the allowed budget for said obsession I have made myself since I discovered that NS2 was actually being made, not even a couple days ago :)

but if you really want to trade, please pm me, and let's exchange emails :P

    Comprox,
    Understood, and thank you.

IF someone is looking at selling the key, I hope we can establish some sort of trust on the matter.
    Such as:
Use of telephone for communication (easier to trust when you know one's phone number)
    Use of Ebay perhaps
or if the person is a known member of this community
    .....

Haha, I realize this is not a very safe thing to trade in the series of tubes these days,
but if someone has one, and thinks we can work it out

    Let me know!

If not, I will suck it up and buy the regular pre-order.

Chances are UWE will sell the SE again, if only to bring in more funds for the extended development. They should try and get this advertised in an article on shacknews/1up/Kotaku etc and they'd make a killing.

Not neccesarily true, you don't actually buy the game, you buy a license to use a copy of it.

It's like books, they always have 'cannot resell in altered packaging' or something in the cover, ownership is conditional, not complete. Usually you are allowed to resell, but I'm fairly sure that steam for example does not allow resale of game keys.

first sale doctrine in the states, as long as the person selling is in the states, they have every right to resell. including books that may say cannot resell in altered packaging.

It's against the terms of service of Steam to sell a Steam account. If the key is already tied to a Steam account, it may not be legal to transfer it.

I'd say its safe to assume he is mainly looking for someone who has one that hasn't been activated. Youd have to give your whole account over otherwise.

Thanks for the heads up, and that's pretty upsetting to me. But I guess software giants stay giants for a reason.

Or they make those rules because of previous problems with scammers, or phishers that sell accounts they do not even own. Altough the below argument probably also matters alot to them about this, I doubt thats really their main reason for not allowing even an insecure way to trade old steam games (I could be wrong of course).

The fact they dont have a built-in system to sell/transfer your old games however is probably that it would cost resources to make one, and people would put their games on that list directly after they played it, swamping the system with cheap game copies which give money to users, not steam (price makes people buy them instead, and steam will get way less actuall sales).

quick question: are you trying to upgrade from standard to special edition, or just get a SE copy? (there's a key for standard edition, and an unlock from that to SE, handled like a DLC)
  • douchebagatrondouchebagatron Custom member title Join Date: 2003-12-20 Member: 24581Members, Constellation, Reinforced - Shadow
my friend has no edition right now, but is interested in the alpha now that it's playable, but moreso interested in the black armor (shallow, right?) so if there's a reasonable offer to be made by someone who has an extra key or another method, pm me prease. Thanks!

the admin said it was ok so it's ok alright? lol if i didn't have my SE attached to my steam account i'd sell it to u... but alas.. steam.

As long as the keys are not tied to steam, you can sell them as you are obviously not selling steam accounts then :P If you do sell your key, make sure to change the email tied to it on the UWE site here too. Not mandatory (once the key is on steam, it's taken), but a good idea still.

It's good to see the forums conversing like this: a lot of forums, especially ones that are behind games, tend to have a lot of trolling - or worse - people that feed the trolls. Everyone seems to handle opinions (so far) really well.

    Zeno
Hahaha, yeah, I may just wait for that thread if no one bites. Though, only if they haven't used their SE key yet.

    monopolowa
    Good question!
Either/or really. I can buy a regular edition and use the SE key you or someone sells me to upgrade that account.

I haven't purchased either, so whichever way the seller wants to do it, I am willing ;) At no hit to the price in question.

    Comprox
Noted. To avoid future issues I imagine.

my spare key is not used anywhere, so it is not bound to a steam account and i can legally trade it what so ever :)

I wonder how many pre-orders they are still getting weekly. Any chance one of the devs could chime in on this?

It really may be worth it for them to make the special edition available for a weekend or two.

But.. SE is going to be available again? Or its impossible? With standard edition if u buy it right now, its possible to play alpha, right??

I would be willing to gift a similarly priced game on Steam for a Standard Edition to Special Edition key, if anyone's interested =)

There are no current plans to offer the SE again as far as I am aware; that was a time-limited tier which has expired, and was warned about numerous times that after that date, it would no longer be available.
No, Alpha access is limited to the SE preorders. Standard preorders (and SE preorders) will have access to the beta, when the game reaches that state.

Nothing surprising about it. Things have been this way for over a decade if you ever bothered to read any of the liscence agreements you've ever agreed to. I don't object to reselling personally, though, and would probably sell off some of my steam account's unplayed games if I could. :P
