    Try deleting \steam\clientregistry.blog to make steam update itself again when you next start it, sounds like a steam bug.

    You might want to bookmark this one as well, it is the advanced search form. Strangely hidden somewhere in the forums...

    Same thing for me I click the shortcut it says launching... opens up the Natural selection main menu i think? But the logo is greyed out and all I can see in the upper left hand corner is hit f1 for support. It freezes my comp and I have to end the program.

    vista 64bit ultimate

    trying to reinstall game now.

    The clientregistry worked thanks.

    Or usually better than most forum search functions do:

    'query string site:unknownworlds.com' in google.

    Where "query string" is what you're searching for.

    Hi !
    I do have the same problem here !

    Deleting the clientregistry.blob didn't fix the problem...

    Windows XP SP2
    Quad Core Q6600
    2 GB RAM
    Nvidia 8800 GT

    I find one thing that works is going into steam, properties, finding "verify game integrity files" and hitting that.

    Antacid, I tried already. It worked fine.

    I deleted the game and I'm actually re-downloading it.

    I'll keep in touch ;)

    dood, do you have the latest nVidia driver?
    I never got this problem, but installing the latest driver solved a few things I saw.

    Probably you can edit the options.xml file and make the game start windowed.
    You could just type into the local address bar: <i><b>%appdata%\Natural Selection 2</b></i>

    Inside the file options.xml look for:

    <graphics>
    <display>
    <fullscreen>false</fullscreen>
    <invertedmouse>false</invertedmouse>
    <x-resolution>1600</x-resolution>
    <y-resolution>900</y-resolution>
    <quality>0</quality>
    </display>
    </graphics>

    The line <fullscreen>false</fullscreen> must be "false" (no quotes) so it open windowed. This solved the problem for a lot of people during Alpha.
    The X and Y resolution must be one that fits your desktop. I use that resolution because my screen is a little bigger than that.

    <quality>
    0 = Ridiculously Awful
    1 = Medium

    For your graphic card is better use 0 value. I have a 9800 GT and I can play on Medium, but as I live in Argentina and therefore have a greater ping I chose 0 to gain some performance.

    Thanks for your reply PaiSand !
    Unfortunatly I already have the latest nvidia drivers (260.99 WHQL).
    I did install directX included with the game.

    But there is something I don't understand... I don't have any "Natural Selection 2" folder in my %appdata%.
    Yes, I do have the hidden files shown...
    I think it's because the game never started.

    Regards,

    Try updating your Microsoft .net framework to the latest (should be able to do it via windows update) and also update your Nvidia PhysX libraries (I'm not 100% sure if its being used still, but it doesnt hurt!)

    If you are using dualscreen, for testing purposes, disable the second screen and just run with one primary.

    What fixed it in the end?

    Other may have the same issue, might be handy to know!

    Perhaps one of the windows updates?
