The Kharaa eyes would see beyond the spectrum of light we do, so they can navigate with very low amounts of light present and their colour perception would be something rather different than ours.
Might not even have to make it toggleable this way, as they'd still more or less see shadows to help them hide.
I also liked the AvP2 solution. Lifeforms light up in regular vision with different colour auras (their scent, essentially)... but in 'nightvision' their vision only extends short distances and lifeforms no longer light up, but in turn they can navigate in complete pitch black darkness, with no light sources present at all.
Stele007: I feel your pain, I use asx for strafe and back and mouse 2 for forward. I'm old school style. I can't stand when I see ported games with WASD unchangeable.

NS2 has a nice visual theme, you don't want to start turning it into 'my first time in photoshop'.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Hardly meant those exactly, though. I even said 'something like that'.
NS1 alien flashlight was very useful for players who sought to do "well" in the game, not to look at the environment in daze while marines shot them down

Same should apply to NS2 imo

How about a "Blood scent" that can be toggled on and off like a flashlight. It would add a glowing aura to the marines. The closer you get, the stronger the glowing.

...or, at least make it manual. This "automatic" flashlight crap is really annoying, especially when you're in a borderline "dark" area and it flips on and off a million times a second, playing that clikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclikclik<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
That's because you're playing with ESDF and F is the default bind for flashlight. The bind for flashlight cannot be changed from ingame. You have to go and edit the config file manually; I think it's in <user>/appdata/roaming/NS2 or something like that.
i really liked the NS1 Alien Flashlight. so maybe something equal for ns2 (ofc a more shiny version) would be nice (some sort of glowing players/structures)
Having the marines illuminated with an outlining aura sounds like the perfect solution to me. Just like in Left 4 Dead, and the AVP series. If the marine has a parasite you'll be able to see the aura through walls, much like Left 4 Dead. Elegant and functional.

Perhaps a heat vision, where parasite fails.

No, we want both if possible.

Marines are covered in glowing spots, you can already see marines, you can't always see where you're going.
