MACs & Drifters too fast?

It's been brought up in another thread that builders move too fast, personally I agree with this the speed upgrade makes them far too fast and can quite easily cover the map in a few seconds, not to mention the fact that they quickly out pace the only things that can protect them (the players). I propose that the builders initial speed be half that of what their current is and the upgraded speed be slightly faster than their starting speed.

Or an option to have the builders Follow a squad of marines or a player to stop them sprinting off and getting instantly destroyed.

Thoughts?

I agree they are to fast, as of now they dont really need protection as it can go and make a hive while 3 marines wait for a mac and defends the area. And macs can almost outrun skulks, aswell as they to can easily atleast drop the start of a cc while several aliens guard the area waiting for a drifter.

I think both should be slower and therefor need more protection if it shall go put a hive in the middle of a room defended by several enemies, aswell as letting the players reach areas if they try to, before the builders do (so a team can agree on rushing to an area to secure it, and not fail just cause the hive is so damn hard to kill when it builds, and it draws aliens to it while attacked).

Also, I can easily senbd a drifter into marine base to build stuff before they can kill it :P.

    EDIT:
note that I look at this from the alien comm perspective, where I see what tactics I can use that is way to good.

MACs and drifters aren't fast/slow, they're just lame and need to be taken out of the game.

I agree they should slow down a little, but not that much (maybe the upgrade could make them go at the marine's sprint speed? I don't know). But currently MACs and Drifters also move through many walls, so it gives an impression of even faster speed when getting from point A to B. Once we get larger maps, they'll need a decent speed to reinforce the front lines rather quickly since you can't just build CCs as you're making your way forward.

Maybe as an upgrade there could be a speed boost 'spell'? It could be global or unit specific and cost res which would make using it a tactical decision.

Not only are they fast they also move through walls.

Drop their speed but buff their health a bit.

Keep in mind the slower they go, the slower the game will go. I happen to think they move fine, and I would rather not see them slowed down so I have to babysit them even more on their way across the map when I'm trying to manage ten other things from the comm seat.

They are a bit fast what with the smallish maps.

I think slower by default but speed upgrade brings them to the current default speed would be best.

Keep in mind that mac =/= drifter
    Marine speed =/= alien speed

While aliens can build lots of drifters (drifter is the building) a mac can only drop the structure an has to build it... At the start of a game aliens can have around 6? drifters and move them to every rt/techpoint to build stuff. While the marines only got 4? macs. Aliens are faster than marines, the main goal at the beginning is gaining areas on the map and defend them... if you slow down macs too much (for normal maps like tram + bigger, rockdown and junction are only engine testmaps that got playable because of the performance issues) marines will have turtle even more. Marine Builders would need to get imba armor + health / other escape mechanics / or they will die like flies on every attempt leaving the base.
    Aliens are favored at earlygame.

You got a point here, as I said in my post I was talking from the alien perspective, and as I said drifters are to fast.
I noticed that macs however are not way to fast, sure I think they to should get just a little bit slower, altough making them unable to shortcut trough walls might be enough ;), but seeing as they must stay to build and then is very vulnerable, the speed advantage might be needed.

The only problem I have is with Mac speed because its hard to follow them as a Marine and very often they just get eaten by a Skulk when they rush around a corner.
The drifter speed is a bit more annoying because when there are Crags active Drifters just rush in a morph to Whips/whatever without having a chance to kill them if you do not see them coming. Once they are set down its unlikely you get them destroyed before the building pops out (except with GL).
Maybe they would simply require a slower "setup" time for building, buildings in constuctions should not be healed by Crag or it should simply be easier to kill buildings in construction. Or maybe something else ;)

I agree that macs and drifters are way too fast. it looks really odd.

I would like to see their speed slowed a little.

I think their speed is fine, but it can be a little op at the beginning of the game (drifter/mac rush for tech points). A better solution IMO would adjust their speed based on powernode/dynamic infestation. Drifters/macs move at current speed in rooms with power (for marines)/rooms with dynamic infestation (for aliens), but at half speed otherwise.
