Too many abbreviations are terrible for learning purposes anyway. Anyone ever tried to play Combat Missions? I doubt your average gamer can't tell difference between some "UNGH-2101 NG" and "HNNGH-30". Meanwhile "Heavy tank destroyer" and "Flak Track" are quite informative. NS2 doesn't have any historical background nor does have that many different models of everything, so why make things too tightly militaristic?
Could we call it Siegesomething? For anyone who has played NS1 it's a clear giveaway and it's pretty descriptive for anyone who just knows how sieging works in games in general. Siege is also easily identifiable word even with typos or bad pronounciation, so it's all good for ingame communication. M.A.C and M.A.S.C are definitely going to get mixed up in European servers where most of your players aren't native English speakers.

We've actually been getting frustrated with the similarities in the names ourselves, and we actually discussed it on Tuesday and came up with a new name for the MASC. Going to try it out for a bit before making the name change official, but it should definitely help avoid some confusion between the names.

Rename to "Commander's Helpfull Extermination and Eradication System of Epicness" So we can have MAC & CHEESE?
In all seriousness, yeah, changing the name to something that contrasts with the letters / pronounciation of "MAC" would be wise).
Perhaps Remotely Operated Seige System? Nah, ROSS is too ######. May as well call it RUPERT.
Um. Self-propelled Eradicator of Xenoinfestation? Maybe not.
Remotely-operated Armoured Mobile BOmbardment MAC & RAMBO. Hell yeah. Although they need escort don't they so maybe not. Besides, rambo is a kind of reserved word in the context of FPS team play (or lack of).
OK here's my only sensible idea: THUMPA Tele-operated High-Utility Mobile Precision Artillery.
Just call it an iSiege, then everyone won't be aware how un-cool the original version was and thus be in awe of how "innovative" it is. (Note: Never played NS1 and yes, I hate Apple)
im going to call it siege cannon unless the official name beats that. SC in short, dont know any other thing taking those 2 letters (there is sg, lmg, hmg, gl, cc, ip, and should soon exist pn, rn, tp, ft, other stuff).
