It's a lot closer to what I believe is NS-esque now, but there's some things I think (with an untrained ear) stands out a bit. Now I'm basically being picky for the sake of being picky here. First off is that distorted shriek. It's not exactly subtle, it stands out like someone who are untrained with a microphone rather than being a crackly distortion of something alien (I assume that was the idea). And although there is a theme I'm not sure it's catching on for me at least. It's a bit monotonous in the long run, although since the track is under 1:40 basically it's understandable there's not enough room to do much variation yet. Tempo variation or something? I don't know the proper way to give critique on that really. But the feel however is there (right instruments, and proper vibe coming from it), but I think to make it interesting it could use some more work.
And also what's the plan for this track? When would you expect this to be played if it was in the game?

I took in your crits and made some slight changes let me know what you think ;].
I tweaked the distorting sound and hopefully it blends better and compliments the song. Throughout the whole track I was scared of adding much of a melody because I thought it might take away from the ambient/dark'ish feel that i think NS2 has, but I through it in with this edit to see what kinda response i get.

I think your right . After adding in the new melodies, I found myself wanting to stretch certain parts longer... but then again if I did that, would it feel like a track to be heard ingame ;] or trailer music >_<.

To be honest when making this song I was thinking of a video I saw with the new battery powered lights :]. The commentator was saying how the new feature would emerge players into the game, and in my opinion having the track play when the power is cutoff is a perfect time ;].
Tho, if possible, I think it would be best to have the introduction(0:00-0:24) of the track to be triggered when a nearby power node is taking damage, and if its successfully taken down then the song should immediately jump to [0:48 - 1:50] Or [0:28 - 0:53(fades out)] Or [0:28 - 1:50]. If a node isn't taken down before the song reaches the 24 second mark then the song should fade out..
Though I think it wouldn't hurt if NS2 to have several ambient tracks to help merge the player into the game when the lights have been on/off for a while.
This one definitively has a more interesting theme but I think it's taking just a tiny bit too much attention, the synth-like sound of the trumpets stands out. And the new shriek sounds better, compliments rather than standing out too much so that's better. Also you're right that it might not be great in the particular case of a powernode being taken down, at least part [0:28 - 0:48], but [0:48 - 1:50] works better in that regard. Seems like the best thing to do would actually to cut this track up in the components you want it to be when in-game to get a proper judgement when implemented, like frapsing a session of chewing on a powernode, room powered down, combat against a marine and then use that as a template for how you want the music to end up like.
cool stuff in this thread, If I could just throw in my 2 cents for VJ, When I think of NS Music, and NS in general, I dont think of them as humans form earth all the time. So I dont expect to hear "instruments" that we in 2010 are used to hearing (piano, guitar, trumpets, drumset etc...)I think of some weird instruments that we have no clue what they look like making weird unique sounds that I wont be able to put my finger on, but are still appealing to the ear.

That's an interesting thought, I'm going to play with this idea a bit. I think it'll be challenging tho ;].
I hope I get some chance to help the NS2 team with my skill set in some kinda way ;]

But all in all it's pretty good :)
I think the 3rd take fits perfectly
