After the recent patch, i cant really see the point of having macs and drifters in the game. And i believe i have a solution on how to increase teamwork, performance and gameplay.
My suggestion:
-Remove Macs and drifters
-Make the marines be able to build, weld etc.
-With DI comming, allow the alien commander to build wherever he want on creep.
-Remove Macs and Drifters
No clear role, to similar ways of building. They are very frustrating to use, especially with low fps and medium to high ping.
-Make the marines be able to build, weld etc.
So the replacement for MAC are marines. Marines will be the commanders tools to "paint his painting". This will encourage teamplay and make marines more involved with the flow of the game.
-With DI comming, allow the alien commander to build wherever he want on the DI.
With two diffrent ways of building, both races will be more intresting. Maybe the gorge could have some kind of DI spread to increase the teamwork between gorge and commander.
Please comment on your thoughts on this and the role of MAC´s and Drifters

1. MAC build time returned to Build 156 values
2. Drifter/MAC energy cost removed (or significantly reduced to something like 5 energy) coupled with a cap on Drifter/MACs (like 10 at any one time)
3. Marine commanders starts with 2 MACs again

Luckily, that will never happen since it gimped teamplay between the comm & players.
MACs role now is repairing & building not-critical objects in the back row.
Some things i consider...
-MAC can move Faster than marines
-Weld faster (hopefully)
-Build slower (i just don't want it so a commander can set up a entire base with just using MAC's)
+MAC and power nodes; will be figured out more in time i believe.
-Only MAC can repair a node? (Concerns are MAC's go down super easy esp from range by Lerk sniper.)
-This has a lot of team work implications to it, marines will have to protect a MAC to get a base back online.)
-Resource issue here with carbon cost and necessity to have MAC
-Temporary power provider for a room? Balance issue here.. cant really test it yet
+MAC Upgrades:
-Speed is fantastic.
-Shielding that regenerates?
-Some sort of MAC recall. MAC is automatically beamed back to commander station when health drops below 20%. Big cool down on a passive ability like this.
I think as time goes on and commanders can play a few games they will have more ideas of what they would like to use the MAC's for.

Luckily anyone that says MACs should be removed from NS2 is wrong.
The reason is simple. Alien expansion rate vs marine expansion rate in a small (12 player or less) server. Every small-player ns2 round would end in alien victory (like what happens in NS1) if macs, and mac spam, were not possible because they permit the marine commander some flexibility when only a small number of marine players are playing.
