Having a few FPS issues.

So, after following the game's development for a while, I decided to pre-order NS2. Unfortunately, after booting up the game, I discovered that, even on the lowest settings, the game ran at a very low FPS (I'd estimate 5-10 FPS). After reading up on the forums, I decided to install Nvidia Physx. This did improve the frame rate (to about 15-20 FPS). Now, I'm wondering if there's anything else I can do to improve my frame rate, besides sit and wait for the game's optimization to improve. Here are my Specs:
CPU- Intel® Core2 Duo CPU E4500 @ 2.20GHz, Performance Rated at: 3.8675 GHz
RAM- 2GB
OS- Windows XP
VIDEO- GeForce 8500 GT
If more specifics are required, I would be happy to supply them.
I would like to try and get the game to work a bit better ASAP, seeing as I'm not quite on a dependable income at the moment (AKA a student), and I did have to use quite a bit the cash I have on hand to buy the game.
Thank you, and I appreciate your time.

Use a lower screen resolution, and perhaps windowed. This of course depending on your actual screen resolution.
Turn shadows off. Write in console: r_shadows false
In my case I have a 1680x1050 screen, so to see and be able to play the game I have to use 1600x900 windowed. I tried it full screen on a lower resolution (and better fps) but at some point the game screen went all black and I can't do anything, forced to kill the process.
Just try different things.
By the way, if you use an nVidia card when you install the latest driver it comes with PhysX. Then go to the nVidia control panel and set the PhysX to use the CPU. Perhaps that helps. And read Trouble Shooting thread.
Other then that you will just need to be patient while the Unknown Worlds team optimizes things...
You could always do what I did back then...apply for a small student loan, and buy a better video card.
Ahh, being in debt. Truly living the American dream. lol.

Either that, or sell one of your bodily organs. Sold my kidney for 50 bucks. Best investment I ever made.

That 8500 is your issue.
This is what I run.
Intel E5300 2.6ghz dual core
6gigs ram
8800 GTS 512mb
I average 20-40 FPS on medium settings and 1600X900 resolution which fits my monitor.
Currently in this build it is laggy. Specifically during battle or when you near a hive. Doesn't matter about the server or settings. The game lags during battle now.
i look to this site when people are curious about the age of their video card

really sends it home that you are running a GPU that is LESS than what was put into the currently old gen xbox 360..
