High fps map?

As beautiful NS2 is, don't you think it would be a good idea to make a high FPS map, so until NS2 is more fully optimized we can get better framerates when we play?

I agree with this But,

*Mappers Usually don't release the bare bones of a map until ready for alpha or beta tests.
*Lots of optimizations in the next release should help allot
*Lighting still has allot to do with it (can't shoot if ya can't see)
*UWE probably won't as they are trying to showcase the props and lighting

Maybe someone has a scrapped playable stripped down level they would share?

Given it's allot of work just to get a level laid out, lighted and playable i find it highly unlikely anyone will do this i am sorry to say. But you never know.

At this stage we need to be testing the maps we actually plan to ship. Resources are limited and we need to focus our energy on finishing those maps.

Really? I'd like to bump this thread just to point out that everybody is STILL complaining about engine performance. I've dabbled in the NS2 map editor, and by using simple geometry and few props, you can dramatically increase the minimum, average, and maximum FPS.

Testing maps? Lol right. If anything needs testing, it is game balance. While the maps are related to balance, it is only a small part of the overall gameplay, which is pretty unbalanced at the moment.

And it is very difficult to actually play NS2 in a competitive manner when performance is still very poor.

Everyone started playing rockdown because it results in better performance. Is it a better map in terms of gameplay than tram? Probably not, but people play it anyways because it results in better FPS. I think theres a need for a map that offers maximum performance.

ns2_sample is a map that is a minimalistic approach as it is simply a tutorial and example map. It is running on SN.Wolf's server for the moment, and although the FPS did increase by about 10, the engine still stutters and lags to some extend.

There is another thread talking about this same issue over in the general discussion here

I agree with maybe making the maps a little more simple or possibly releasing them for testing before dynamic lighting is added.

Like monkey said, there are a lot of game play changes that need to be addressed and its tough to focus on those issues when the game is having a hard time running. A lower texture / less demanding map could maybe help focus players attention back to game play rather than performance. Just a thought.

edit: As a side note. I would have to say that a low texture or less dynamic map should be handled by the community and not the developers much like many games on the market. We know you guys have enough on your plate already.
